Wednesday: What was the school board thinking giving Jamie Madrox a teaching position?

Sometime earlier in the week, the students would have gotten a notice that swimsuits were optional for class today. And anyone fearing the reason why might feel relieved when they saw that the danger shop had been transformed into a cruise ship

But not just any cruise ship. It was a cruise ship staffed by Jamie Madrox duplicates in white uniforms.

"Welcome aboard students!" Jamie said as he doffed a captain's hat. "Today we're going to set a course... for LOVE!"

Suddenly the cruise ship was filled with music and song. The Jamies were singing and dancing around in a well coordinated choreography that included ballet, jazz, tap and lots of spirit fingers.

If the students weren't afraid now? They should be.

"Homecoming is coming up kids," Jamie said when the musical number was complete. "Which means... dating. And falling in love. Which for many of you might be a completely new thing. So to help you along I've used a scientific process to bring the most compatible people together in class and give you an optimal situation where you can interact."

Point of fact: Jamie's scientific process involved throwing darts at a dartboard. Possibly in the teacher's lounge and at his own face.

"Enjoy your cruise ladies and gentlemen... on the Love Boat."

"We also haven't started the main course," Karla pointed out. "There's plenty of time for flying pigs and Madrox in drag."

And if their dinner turned out to be doorknobs or something disgusting, Karla was going to kill Jamie. Kill him flatter than dead.

"Are you trying to jinx things now?" Sam wondered, lightly amused. "Asking for trouble in this class is bound to get you trouble."

"Being in this class is bound to get us into trouble," Karla countered, smiling a bit. "That's pretty much a guarantee. If it at least takes a form we're expecting, we can be that much more prepared for it later."

"Are we supposed to be doing anything specific here?" Sam wondered, glancing around. "Practicing dating or something?"

"I ask myself that same question every time I show up to class," Karla muttered.

"I...guess so," she said more loudly, shrugging. "Maybe figure out why we're considered the most optimal pairing?"

Besides Jamie's desire to watch Warren and Annie flail.

"If nothing else, this might end up serving as a 'What not to do on dates' lesson. Depending on how our teacher behaves."

"I don't really have a lot of immediate dates planned so it might not be knowledge I need right away," Sam admitted with a shrug. "I'll do my best not to spill gravy or ketchup on you. Seems like that would ruin a date quick."

Karla's eye twitched a little, but she was more than willing to overlook the resemblance to a door knob in favor of filet mignon. It wasn't kobe, but it was still damn good.

...Was Sam a vegetarian? If he was, Karla would be happy to eat his steak, too!

"My boyfriend knows most of my bad habits by now," she agreed, cutting off a small piece of steak. "So I think I'm kind of beyond the good behavior thing that's generally required on first dates. By now, I would have said five snarky comments, a few double entendres that I didn't realize were dirty until I was done saying them, a lewd comment or two that I did mean, and tried to steal something delicious off your plate."

She gave him an unsure but game grin and ate her bite of steak. She was possibly not the best person to learn to date from.
