The Fifteen Labors of Fandom, Session 6, Period 1

Hercules had plans for today's class. Oh yes he did. The class was directed to meet in the Danger Shop, where again their teacher (resplendent in his 'battle toga') met them outside the door to the Shop itself.

"Greetings and salutations, fair heroes and heroines of Fandom!" he declared. "Beyond this door today is a test of mettle. A test of skill. A test of grit! That is all I will say now, for you must instead experience it yourself!"

And with that, he stepped out of the way. What possibly could lie beyond the door?

Before Stepping Inside the Danger Shop...

Once inside, the students find themselves in what appears to be a happy amusement park. Everything garishly colored, clowns and characters in mascot suits wandering about, it looks like a slice of childhood fun and innocence all ready for experiencing!

There are roller coasters! Merry Go Rounds! Every sort of ride imaginable!

Funnel cake! Cotton Candy! Deep Fried Oreos!

Throw darts at balloons! Spray water into a clown's mouth! Coconut shy! Win a kewpie doll for your favorite gal!

About halfway into the class, after everyone's had their chance to have some fun, an announcement comes over the PA system in the 'park'.

"Well kiddies, did you really think it'd all be fun and games? Welcome to Murderworld, and today's game is survive... if you can!"

And that was punctuated by a maniacal laugh.

Oh noes, the clowns and lovable mascots are all evil robots with deadly weapons for hands. That'd scar some children for life. Except these fellows... they're out to murder you. Murder you dead.

And now those same rides are out to get you! Runaway coasters, bumper cars at lethal speeds, merry go rounds of deeeeeath!

The dart ballons now explode with vicious force! Those clown mouths are shooting bullets! It's madness! Who would do such a thing?

At the center of the park, on stage in an ampitheater, stands a man in a white suit and a ridiculous tie.

"Come one, come all, it's time for a game of You Bet Your Life! The only problem is... you can't win!"

Surely it could be easy to just walk up and punch him, right? I mean, it's not like he has dozens of traps in that theater...

[ooc: Come and try to take out Arcade!]

Before and even after it all turns to Murderworld mayhem, Herc can be found at a little information booth, sipping a mocha latte he brought in with him from outside the Danger Shop.

This class brought to you by the fact that I like the evil amusement park trope. As always, it can be a mod-your-own-adventure, or you can hit me up for NPCing or what-have-you!

Percy Jackson

Percy wasn't really sure what he was about to step into so he took a few deep breaths just in case whatever was back there was bad.

Percy...kind of felt like a fool for thinking he was about to face some monster. Once he realized where he was, he veered off for a funnel cake. He remembered those from rare trips with his mom to Coney Island and decided that that infusion of sugar was what he needed.

...why hadn't Percy trusted his fist instinct? When a clown nearby turned from annoying to flat out violent, Percy dropped his funnel cake and reached for Riptide.

He'd never gone one on one with a clown before so this...this was gonna be something. Percy slashed at him with his sword and decided to always trust his first instinct.

Lion-o

After last week's surprise, Lion-o was holding his breath until he was certain that it was safe to inhale.

Lion-o was still mentally on alert for his first ride on the roller coaster. But when nothing bad happened, he started to relax a bit and enjoyed a second ride.

The roller coaster car took off at high speed with Lion-o trapped by the safety bar. Lion-o struggled against the restraints for a while before finally freeing himself. Getting off the runaway coaster was another challenge, but Lion-o managed to jump when the car slowed down at the base of a hill.
