The Art(s) of War and Peace; Wednesday, Second Period [ 10/05 ].
When the arrived at the classroom, they would find a note tacked on the door directing them to the gym. The note was littered with hearts, making it quite clear exactly which of the teachers had left it. When they arrived at the new location, they would find both of their teachers there; a blackboard on wheels stood ready to be filled with information, while mats were spread around, waiting to be used.
"Have a seat, my little ducklings ♥," Shunsui started class with a beaming grin, his hands tucked comfortably into the sleeves of his robe. "Get comfortable ♥. We have an exciting class for you today, but, first, I must let Ghani-chan teach you the war side of today's topic before we get to have fun with a more peaceful interpretation of it ♥."
"Today we are going to discuss the breaking-down of tactics and use of energy," Ghanima announced briskly. "Energy, to Tzu, was vital in the directing of a force, as was the endless combination of tactics at his disposal."
"'Therefore the good fighter will be terrible in his onset, and prompt in his decision.' First, tactics are not always as straight forward as they may seem." She continued. "Or as Tzu says, 'In battle, there are not more than two methods of attack--the direct and the indirect; yet these two in combination give rise to an endless series of maneuvers. The direct and the indirect lead on to each other in turn. It is like moving in a circle--you never come to an end. Who can exhaust the possibilities of their combination?'"
"Endless permutations, all made possible by the energy held by your troops."
"So. Energy feeding into tactics, and vice versa. What is an indirect tactic versus a direct one? How do you know?"
Naturally, the class fell into discussion at this point. Clearly, the discussion was not intended to last the full length of the class as usual, else there would be no need to for the relocation. When the conversation died down a little, Shunsui lifted a finger. "Ah, but I promised you something else, did I not ♥? Energy, directing vital forces, moving in a circle, never ending. The momentum of a round stone rolling down a mountain thousands of feet in height. This reminds me inevitably of my favourite fighting style. Ahhhh, you must wonder, but a pacifist? Having a favourite fighting style? Of course ♥. It is a foolish pacifist who does not realize that sometimes, war is as inevitable as peace, and one who will not live for long, besides ♥. So I would like to introduce some of you to Aikido, which is a form of martial arts where the intention is to take the energy of an attacker, redirecting it back at them in a way to defend yourself. Loosely translated, it means 'Way of unifying with life energy' or 'the Way of harmonious spirit'. &hearts. Some of you may remember this fighting style from attending my pacifism class; those of you who did not have the privledge of taking that class, allow me to demonstrate. Ghanima-chan, if you could be so kind ♥?"
As planned for the demonstration, Ghanima made a move for an attack. And, as planned, she made it easy for Shunsui to execute a few moves that showed off the Aikido moves. "If you were watching closely," Shunsui said, offering to help his lovely co-teacher back to her feet, "you can see how I managed to use Ghani-chan's attack against her, in a way that stopped her, but did not harm her. Watch again..." Once more, they went through the almost dance-like movements, but, this time, as they moved, Shunsui explained the implementations of what he was accomplishing.
"One can argue," Shunsui concluded with a smile, adjusting his hat which hadn't seemed to move in the slightest during the whole display, "the idea that Aikido is really as nonviolent as we like to think it is, but we've had enough discussion for one day. Everyone up, and give yourselves a good stretch, and pair up with someone to give a few Aikido moves a try, if you'd like ♥. If you have any questions or would like to be shown something with more detail, just let Ghani-chan or myself know, and we'd love to impart to you the wisdom. That is, after all, what we're here for ♥."
[[please wait for the OCD has deftly redirected its energy to be up and ready! ]]
