Tricks, Cons and Bamboozles | Wednesday | Period 1

Today in class, the students were fortunate enough to have a fully-human, fully-clothed teacher. Sure, that teacher was one who had spent the weekend sobbing into an empty bottle of Bordeaux, but that was neither here nor there.

“Today,” said Neal, “we’re going to do a couple of workshops.”

The room was set up with three main tables, with various pieces of equipment in buckets on each one. Yes, the class was a bit small to do workshops like this, but that was what he was doing and that was that.

“I’ve set up three main stations for you all, and each one focuses on a different manual task that’s pretty much essential in this field. I’m not saying you have to be experts at it, especially if you want to move to the more white-collar stuff, but you’ve got to know the basics. So here we have lock-picking, pickpocketing, and forgery.” He pointed to each table as he spoke, then shrugged.

“Any questions?”

Just taunt Kenzi, why don't you, Bart. "That is a good good thing to know." She beamed at him. "If I get locked in somewhere. Or locked out!"

Bart flashed a big, heroic grin. "That's what we heroes do!"

"Maaaan... were you off doing that kind of stuff while you were gone?" Kenzi asked belatedly.

Bart opened his mouth to reply, clearly very excited to talk about his adventures, but stopped midthought (which was impressive for Bart).

"Max and Wally both told me... many times that I shouldn't talk about what happened. 'It could break all of time and space' they told me. Something about causality. Time travel sucks sometimes." Bart looked a little dejected, but refrained from saying anything else.

"Awwwwwww," Kenzi complained. "Spoilsports. But you had fun? And you can't tell me one eeny, teeny thing? Like where you were or something?"

Bart looks around to see if other people are listening in, because everyone would clearly be interested to hear what he has to say.

"Well, we were in Central City, but we were travelling back and forth through time. That's something we do sometimes. See, there's this treadmill and..." Bart stopped, he probably sounded crazy. It always sounds a lot saner in his head.

"There's a treadmill of time?" Kenzi asked, somewhat in a fog. "Is that why you were gone so long?"

"It's more of a... Time Treadmill. And yeah... though from my perspective, I was only gone for the weekend. Time travel can suck sometimes."
