Well-Behaved Women Rarely Make History [Session 2, Period 4]

Shira had gotten a ~~handwavy~~ note from Annja saying she wouldn't be in class, as well as the DVD of the movie she was supposed to show the class instead.

Thankfully Shira had finally mastered how to work a DVD player.

She was still a little bewildered as class started; this was what happened when you weren't sure how you ended up as a TA in the first place.

Rosella was thinking that women who made history certainly didn't do so by sitting on their bottoms and watching films, but the thought left her soon into the movie's beginning when she was definitely drawn in by the history and the story and the fanciful idea of being one of these women on the battlefield.

Pity Daventry was such a peaceful country; it might be quite the adventure to lead an army into battle! And pity anyone who crossed her path as she left class later in this particular mindset.

Gabrielle understood that women weren't typically expected to be in battle, but outright prohibiting it just struck her as an intensely stupid thing to do.

By about halfway through the movie her cheering for the main characters might be . . . um, more than a little audible.

Cheering could almost always catch Rapunzel's attention.

"Isn't this great?" she whispered excitedly. Well, intended to whisper. Excitement had a way of running away with her sometimes, and that didn't help with keeping her voice down.

"It's so sad that they have to do this," Gabrielle replied, not really keeping her voice down either, "but that just makes it more exciting, doesn't it? That extra layer of adversity, all that defying the odds . . . really makes you want to cheer for them more, doesn't it?"

She was, as her rapt expression hinted, way too into this.

"Um..." Well, Rapunzel hadn't actually thought that much about that part. Mostly she was excited by the movie. As a movie. Moving pictures were really neat!

Still, that was an interesting question. "I think so," she finally decided with a nod and a grin.

"Of course, I don't know if I'd want to be them," she admitted. Running across battlefields wasn't fun, and she usually had to stick to things like thinking about whether her boots were laced to keep from freaking out. "I just love that they're doing this."

Rapunzel nodded in full agreement. "They're going after their dreams," she said in approval.

Well, maybe not their dreams exactly, but Gabrielle could get behind the general sentiment.

"Just think about the courage it takes to live up to their convictions that way," she blurted out. "Under the circumstances? It takes a lot of courage to do something like that."

Be glad she didn't go off into a long-winded story about running away from home herself, Rapunzel.

Yet.

[OOC: So sorry -- end of my day got super-hectic there! Am also going to be SP-ish for the next couple of hours unfortunately. :/]

"Yes," Rapunzel nodded in agreement again. "It can be scary to try something so risky." Like leaving home! At all!

But that wasn't running away. It was just seeing the world for a bit before going back to where things were safe!

[OOC: No need to apologize. I hope your day gets suddenly and magically better!]

. . . there was a place where things were safe? Sure there was, if you didn't travel with the ancient world's biggest trouble magnet.

"But it's worth it, isn't it?" Gabrielle asked. "I think so, anyway."

"Well, they certainly seem to think so," Rapunzel pointed out, pointing at the screen.

"It's for a good cause, after all," Gabrielle agreed after a moment of watching the movie.

"Even if it does seem very horrifying." Mother had been right when she'd said that the outside world was dangerous. Though it was hard to remember that when everything at Fandom seemed so wonderful and amazing.

"It can be," Gabrielle answered carefully, "and I hope you never have to experience it for yourself."

She was used to being the less-experienced one when it came to the darker aspects of the world; it was interesting being on the other side, and she thought she had a bit of an idea of how Xena saw her.

"Well, I'll be going home soon." Where it was safe.

Rapunzel only wanted to experience the good things, after all. And then go back to her usual life.

Rapunzel still found movies fascinating. They were like pictures, but they moved. Which was crazy and really neat. She propped her chin in her hands and stared in rapt attention. Of course being so interested in the film as a film meant that she didn't pay quite as much attention to its contents as she probably should have.

Shira was still a little amused and bewildered, but she was obviously there.

Rilla was taking notes as she watched--she still didn't fulfill the age requirements to serve on the front at home (and there was Jims), but maybe Faith would be interested...

Is movie day due to Annja mun being violently ill, boo.
