Study Hall, Monday, Oct. 31

Still wearing his sombrero, Dream has thrown open the doors to study hall and dropped himself at the table up front.

He seems to be scrutinizing the students who walk in, especially the boys, especially the taller boys.

Small bowls of candy are scattered throughout the room.

After walking Vala to her first class of the day, Cameron enters the study hall. There's no puppies to play with this time, so he just takes a seat and pulls out his notes for Archaeology. As he stifles a yawn, he thinks that perhaps Vala was right about getting up so early.

Cam is the first boy to walk into study hall who even vaguely fit Lockheed's description, so Dream pays special attention. As he watches him struggle not to fall asleep, he sends a gentle wave of slumber in his direction. It can't hurt to just take a look...

He can't stop the yawn this time and it's getting harder to concentrate on the letters in front of him. It doesn't take long for Cameron to fall asleep and soon he's back in the cockpit, listening to Banks shouting at him that they're hit and got bandits on their six.

Dream concentrates on the sleeping boy and -- so as not to disturb him -- gently scans his dream.

It is on what looks to Dream like an airplane or spaceship of some kind. He sees death, but no murder. Violence, but it is in the dreamer's future, not his past.

And he does not see a dragon.

Feeling like his duty has been discharged, Dream pulls back from the dream to allow Cameron his privacy. He hopes that if Cam remembers his brief presence, it will be written off as the type of odd blending of what is and what is not that is so common in the Dreaming.

Just for a moment it feels like there's someone else with them in the cockpit, but there's no time to concentrate as there's too much going on around him.

Behind him, Banks has stopped responding and he knows without a doubt that he's going to crash down into the icy planes below them. The glass in the window shatters as they go in, nose first.

With a start, Cameron wakes up again. Some of the cold has followed him out of the dream and he shivers as he looks up at Dream, he realises that he's still in the Study Hall.
