BWI Airport | Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

Petra was so relieved to find the Portalocity lounge and a banner proclaiming 'Fandom High.' She was pretty sure that meant she was in the right place, even if she did seem to be the first one here, and it meant she could sit down and stop dragging her luggage (two large, new-looking suitcases and an extremely battered green leather overnight case with an Audrey Hepburn decal on top) all over the airport.

She picked out a chair with a good view of the door so she could see new arrivals and sat down with Holly Go-Overnightly in her lap, then pulled her phone out. All her friends were still asleep, no doubt, so texting was out, but surfing the web seemed like a good way to kill some time while she waited for other people to show up. She hoped she wasn't the only new student. That would be awkward.

"Yes," Hercules said. "And impressive for such a large vehicle. I just hope we do not run out of gas. If it were a year ago, I'd be able to merely carry or push the shuttle the rest of the way. Now... I think I'd hurt myself if I tired."

"Magic thing, I take it?" Alistair said, sort of sympathetically.

He'd be more sympathetic if he didn't feel like throwing up.

"I gave up all my godly powers in order to set the universe right," Hercules said. "It was all in a day's work, as they say. But it has left me in a position to have to adjust."

And that's when a convertible cut him off on the road, and Hercules shook a fist. "I hope you rot in the bowels of Hades!" he shouted at the driver.

Godly powers. Huh. Alistair squinted at him (and the road rage), and wondered if that was a bit of dwarf Paragon bragging or the man had actually had godly powers.

"Look," he ventured, finally, "I'm not trying to be offensive, but are you by any chance a very large - and angry - dwarf?"

"Why would I find that offensive?" Hercules said, thinking that very odd. "I have known a few dwarf-like people in my time. I am not of their kind, though. I am Hercules, son of Zeus, and Lion of Olympus."

"I... don't... know why I said that part," Alistair admitted, slowly. "I don't know any of those places, but it's nice to meet you. I'm Alistair, son of no one you'd know, Grey Warden of Ferelden."

"That is a very impressive title," Hercules said. "It almost sound like the name of a hero where I come from. The Mighty Grey Warden, defender of justice!"

Alistair looked a little embarrassed. "There's many of us," he offered. "Not really all that much to brag about. I'm just a new recruit."

"What do you Warden, then? The land of... Ferelden?" His skills in deduction weren't all terrible.

"We stand against the darkspawn," Alistair explained. "The Grey Wardens are an ancient order that have always kept Thedas safe from the Blight, though we've only recently been allowed to return to Ferelden."

Well, Alistair, you were officially no longer allowed to throw stones about Hercules using too many strange names.

"...though I'm here to teach school children and learn something about equality and understanding." Sigh, Duncan. Did he have to do so with Morrigan?

"Both are very good tasks," Hercules said. "I myself stand against the dark forces of the world, to save good people from the blight of criminals and maniacs. Though I am here to try and instill and forge that heroic spirit in the young people."

"Maker knows we could use a bit more heroic spirit in the world, especially now," Alistair sighed. He liked the not-dwarf, he decided.

If partly because he was funny.

That's why most people liked Herc. Even when he was being extra Herc-y.

"Exactly," Herc said. "Even in the dawn of a new heroic age, it is important to foster the spirit in the young. For it is not like all heroes are immortal."

"Most of them," Alistair ventured, "are pretty squishy."

"Some get better," Hercules said. "But you're right. It is a very dangerous profession. But very needed."

"Very much so indeed, what with all those darkspawn and dragons running around. Though I suppose dragons don't really run as much as fly," he mused, thoughtfully.

He shook it off, and peered out the window. "Anyway...

"...are we there yet?"

"You're not very familiar with road trips, are you?" Hercules said. "Perhaps you should sit down and... enjoy a juice box or the view. It will take some time to get back. Though not too long."
