[OOC: Once again, laziness ensues. I'll just group together the two/three classes that go together. This time, I'm posting in the right place. Yay!]

Intro:

Welcome back. I'm sure you all enjoyed the reading. Today's discussion will focus on the different branches of anthropology.

The most expansive one, Cultural Anthropology, is the one that we will be focusing on in this course. The anthropologist must go out into the field and actually visit different cultures to study them and write ethnographies detailing their findings. I have done this, my primary location being in small tribes in Africa.

Then, there's Archaeology. Do not be confused, archaeologists are not paleontologists! We study artifacts from certain sites in order to determine how certain cultures lived in the past.

Then we have Linguistics. That is another field I have done studies in. This particular field breaks down language. Vocabulary, grammar, everything is broken apart in order to study how the language is used, who speaks it.

Physical or Biological Anthropology is the study of human remains, bones and things, in order to form a picture of how humans were in the past. These people are sometimes used for forensics work.

Finally, Applied Anthropology, a relatively new branch of anthropology. This is where one looks at human behavior to help solve or lessen contemporary problems in the society, economy ,and technology.

Now I want you to pair off to brainstorm an essay. That means you don't have to write the essay, but pretend you will. Imagine you're an anthropologist and you've arrived on the field to study a culture. Make a list of "do's" and "dont's". Please hand them into me by the end of the class.

Egyptian Archaeology:

In order to jump into the good stuff, we need to learn how the Egyptians got there.

He turns on a powerpoint presentation. He then goes through to lecture about the origin of the Egyptians

Hello, Dr. Jackson. I applied for this course, but never received a confirmation letter concerning my enrollment. I sat in on your lecture anyway, I hope that is acceptable. I am up to date on the readings as well.

Don't worry, I didn't send anyone confirmation letters. It should show up on your schedule online, though. You're on the roster, and that's all that matters.

Evelyn is taking careful notes during the lecture. one or two times she frowns and shakes her head and notates something in a different-coloured pen.

*sits in the back of the classroom with two chair-legs off the floor and his feet on the desk*

*grabs a desk in the back, proceeds to tap feet, twirl hair, and generally die of booooooredom...

...until we get to the slides on tombs and treasures and stuff*

...treasure?

Yeah, gold, jewelled sparkly things!

*but after about three we're back to looking at dirt and pieces of dirt and places full of sand, and she's boooooored again...*

*rubs eyes* Damn, I must have fallen asleep. *was completely not paying attention*

Yes, you did fall asleep. You drooled just a bit, and started to snore, but I placed a silencing charm around you because I did not want that disrupting my focus. I'm available later if you would like to copy my notes so you don't fall behind.

I do not drool! *wipes at face anyway*

Oh, um ... *will probably take you up on that notes thing* ... that would be great, thanks.

*gets up and pokes it, turning all next class's slides into clips from "The Little Mermaid"*

*looks up whilst taking notes and blinks with wide eyes*

*sits and takes careful notes*

That light must just be a form of psyenergy, he's sure...

*furrows his brow*

Sometimes I forget not everyone uses the Internet. Come to me after class and I'll show you how to use it.

...Yep, that just went over his head, and it shows in his expression. He just shakes his head, then nods.

*takes careful notes*

*lets mind wander halfway through lecture and starts taking careful notes on which other students he think would survive Judgment Day*

*looks left to right to make sure no one's paying attention* Apparently I'd outgrown my usefulness to the Stargate program. So now I can ~~corrupt~~ teach young people instead. Funny how the world works.

Outgrown your usefulness? What the hell is going on over there? I think someone's trying to clean ship, first Doc gets sent here, then you, then me. Just you wait, I bet it won't be long before Teal'c or Carter show up.

Which reminds me, apparently there's someone here named Vala-something who's been looking for you all over the place... not sure where she is now though...

[OOC: My Jack's from somewhere in season seven, seeing as how that's how far Saturday morning (Three am) reruns have gotten. Think maybe me, you, and the other ones should get together and figure out the backstory a bit or should we just wing it?]

There's definitely something fishy going on. I definitely saw Sam, or someone impersonating her, walking down the halls. Don't think she recognized me.

*headdesk* This is going to be a long year. I hope it's only for classwork reasons.

[OOC: I've been trying to pinpoint where Danny falls, he's definitely somewhere in Season 8 but seeing as I haven't seen too much of 8 or 9, I'll try to incorporate some of the stuff I actually KNOW from that. But we definitely need to get together to figure out our relations and stuff.]

And have you noticed how many smart people are here? It's just plain wrong.
