True Heroism! The Olympian Way! Session 6, Period 3

Hercules figured after the very dreadful and serious events of last week, he needed to do something fun and lighthearted for the class today. So, they met in the Danger Shop, which appeared to be programmed into a small, idyllic 1950's neighborhood. Pastel painted houses formed into a circle around a fountain, each house with a tree in their front yard.

And each tree held two mewling, adorable kittens, and at the base of each tree were two adorable kids unable to get their adorable kittens out of the tree.

"Heroism comes in many forms, as I have said. All of you showed different kinds this past week. Today we will explore the more human kind of heroism, helping the helpless. These poor children cannot get their kitties out of their trees. It is your duty to help them, as the firefighters are off... fighting fires. Once all the kittens are rescued, I will have a special surprise at the end." He clapped his hands together. "Get to it!"

Luke's not gonna be here due to being involved in heroics far, far away.

Should totes count as extra credit, just saying.

Percy's mind was elsewhere but he didn't think that rescuing a kitten would take too much brainpower. He thought about somehow using his powers but he knew cats hated water so he decided against that.

Eventually, he just climbed up the tree and used the half eaten chocolate bar in his pocket as a way to get the kitten closer. The kitten was stubborn though and made Percy scoot out onto the branch before coming closer to him and allowing Percy to scoop her up before she got a hold of the chocolate.

Then, it was just a matter of climbing down and giving the kitten a few skritches under her chin.

Kate was really not a pets sort of person. The best she could hope to keep alive was probably a plant, and only if it was a cactus. Nor was she really a kid sort of person.

Since she had no helpful powers for this particular occasion (or not that she could use in class, anyway), she was following Percy's lead and climbing, making what she hoped were encouraging noises in the hope the fuzzy kitten busy cleaning itself on one of the upper branches came down to her.

All the while a continuous commentary of, "You're doing it wroooong," came from the kid she was trying to help.

Juliet's little girl kept crying, which made Juliet cry, but then the kitten started mewing and she wanted to cry about that, too. Eventually, she realized the waterworks weren't doing any good. She shimmied up the ladder and got the cat.

Percy brought his kitten along and let her run around by the fountain while he grabbed some pizza. He sat close enough to the fountain to run his fingers through the water and ate quietly.

Animals hated Nico. It was a thing stemming from how he stank of death to them. Most of the time, the feeling was mutual, but today he was supposed to rescue the stupid cat that kept hissing at him.

The kid beside him was weepy and whining that pissing off the cat would only make it climb higher and Nico basically wanted to be anywhere but there.

"Hold on to your freakout," he told the kid before slipping into the shadow of the tree and out up on the branch by the cat. There wasn't a no powers rule in class, right? Well, it was too late if it was since the feline was already flipping out at the sight of Nico so close, but luckily the cat chose to run back down to the kid, seeing its enemy up in the branches and ruining an afternoon nap in the leaves.

Nico shrugged and jumped back to the ground where the kid was cuddling the cat that totally hissed again at him - way to say thanks. "You're welcome," she said pointedly, pushing his bangs out of his eyes.

Richie hadn't had pets as a kid. But he had been a kid who needed someone bigger to help him a lot of the time and only got the help on rare occasions. So he was all over this one. Maybe he had something of a weakness for little kids. Unlike scary gray monsters this was something he could handle.

And he did handle it, though the scratches one kitten left on the back of his neck when it decided his head was a good spot to sit on instead of a branch would probably sting for a while.

"Awesome," Richie said as he reached for a slice. "I will rescue kittens for pizza any day." He'd do it without a reward too, but shh, don't tell.

Raven would have tried to soothe the children's (and the kittens) emotions if they weren't simulations. Instead she assured the children she was going to help them and, so she wouldn't frighten them by accident, told them to close their eyes. Then she carefully teleported up to a branch near the kittens, gathered them in her hands, and teleported back down.

"Hey!" Sam yelled up into the tree. "Hey, you stupid cat! What're you doing? Didn't you know you'd get stuck? Let this be a lesson to you!"

Sam's cat-rescuing methods ≠ everyone's cat rescuing methods. But she did manage to annoy the cat into forgetting it was scared and making a leap at her head.

Sam got into a tug of war match with her kitten over a piece of pizza.

If this kept up, she was going to get totally home sick for dear little three legged, rabid frothy.
