"We were going to cover something a bit more practical this week," Steve admitted, "but I know everyone had a rough week last week, and the island seems to have been sending me a message today..." Oh, look, he found another piece of chocolate in his desk drawer. He held it up illustratively and said, "So, instead, we'll be making brownies and chocolate chip cookies.

"A quick note on baking. In cooking, experimentation is encouraged. Expected, even. In baking...not so much. There's a lot of science, chemistry especially, involved in baking, and if you mess with the ingredients and don't know exactly what you're doing, you're going to end up with a disaster. So it's really best to stick to the recipes, especially the first time you make something, and even after that, if you're not an expert, it's probably a bad idea to play around. Something like omitting nuts or switching walnuts out for pecans probably won't cause a problem, but if you, say, substitute buttermilk for regular milk, or use medium eggs instead of large ones in a straight numbers swap, you're not going to be happy with the results. So. Stick to the recipe." He was unaware of Karla's reputation, not living in the dorms and all, or he might have been looking directly at her, if she was present.

"So, get to baking. Please don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it, or if there's something in the directions that is confusing you. And if you feel the need to snack on the chocolate while you cook, there seems to be plenty more where that came from."

"Heyyy, you got sick too?" Kenzi said, leaning forward to examine his skin, nibbling away on the chocolate. "Dude. I was hoping Radio got it wrong."

"Yeah," Toby said, tugging on his sleeves self-consciously. "Not my best look, huh? You- didn't get attacked or anything, did you?" he asked.

"Naaaaah," Kenzi lied, thinking of Bo's attempt to choke the living shit out of her. "I was smart, stayed inside. Played cards with Peter." She looked rueful. "Not really all that helpful. I wish I could've been cooler and more helpful, somehow."

"Well, you know. Sometimes that's the best thing to do," Toby reasoned. "I heard they had all sorts of people with swords and stuff out there anyway. I'm just glad I was ~~oh so handwavily~~ stuck in the clinic so I couldn't go make things harder for people."

"They did! Faramir was out there, killing shit. He was a teeny bit infected by Saturday, he's probably fine by now." Kenzi gave him a look of concern. "You're feeling okay now? You're not gonna flake out on burgers with me again this week, right?"

"Promise," Toby grinned at her. "...As soon as I figure out a way to make a little cash." There would be a trip to the mainland in his future, oh yes.

"DUDE WE HAVE TO RIDE THE TEACUPS!"

Inside voice, Kenzi. "And find gullible tourists!"

The volume didn't faze Toby too much; he'd been in enough group homes to become accustomed to that sort of thing (although admittedly usually on the part of younger boys rather than teenage girls, but details).

"Sure, just so long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get in," he reasoned. "I don't have that sort of cash to start with."

"We'll figure something out." Like, ohhh, free tickies from Hannah Montana? Maaaybe? Muahahaha. "When you're feeling up to it and all."

"I'm thinking as soon as 'scales' are something not included in a description of me?" Toby suggested.

Kenzi patted his hand, then checked to see if she'd poked at any ouchy parts. "Yeeeah, that'll probably do it. But! Food. Drink. Ceeeelebrate!"
