Social Activism- Monday- Period 1- Class #6

For as much as Hermione was all about learning and getting others to learn, she was also really sympathetic to the fact that the week had been traumatic, and that not everyone might be back to normal yet. Therefore, she was making sure today was going to be easy for everyone.

"I had class planned weeks ago, but in light of everything that's happened, I thought we could all use a distraction today. It's at least an on topic distraction, though," she said quickly, just in case anyone thought she'd lost her mind. "This is a film called do I have to meta this? Norma Rae, about a woman in America who started a movie to unionize the factory where she worked. Now I had an entire lecture on who the real woman was and what happened and how, but I realized that would take an entire class period, so instead I'm going to pass out these handouts while you watch. And check around the room, there's probably chocolate somewhere." People could probably use chocolate.

Raven settled in to watch the movie, but she kept an eye out for classmates who might need healing to speed the infection away. Your grey, give it to her.

How about you take an apology first, since Scully owes you one?

Keeping her voice down, Scully cautiously said, "Hi, Raven. I'm sorry I freaked you out last week."

Raven gave Dana a concerned look, checking for lingering signs of the infection. "You do not need to apologize," she said. "I know you were not yourself. How are you feeling? I will heal you if you wish."

Scully's major mutations were for the most part gone, but there were still huge patches of gray skin, and her fingernails were still black. "I still feel badly about it. I probably should have checked myself in as a patient long before I started drinking blood and eating bugs." She sighed and rubbed her eyes. "I don't know, aren't you tired after all this? You must be exhausted after whatever it was you all did on Saturday."

"I rested a great deal afterward," Raven said. Karla had insisted; she would've merrily gone on healing everyone in sight until she dropped. "It would be no trouble to remove the last of the infection from your body. There is no reason for you to continue to be afflicted by it until your own body can rid you of it."

Yeah, Scully knew better than to take that at face value. Having seen what it took out of Raven to try and heal Triela. However... she didn't exactly doubt the other girl, and she knew how much it meant to her to help. Ronan was right, it was taking a lot out of her to heal up from them. Sighing, she said sternly, "If you pass out, I'm so telling on you to everyone else who cares about you," and held out one hand.

"Karla said I may heal anyone I wish," Raven pointed out, though she didn't really need permission. Still, she'd rather not be scolded.

She clasped Scully's hand, closing her eyes as she dropped her shields. The grey patches on Dana's skin grew smaller, then faded completely as Raven pulled the infection into herself. The spots appeared on her own, lingered for a moment, then vanished.

Her nails were proving more difficult for some reason, and she frowned, straining to take that as well.

They slowly receded into the size contained by the nailbeds, the cuticles re-forming into normal tissue-- but the dark color didn't fade, and neither did the slight curve to them. Scully frowned, disturbed. "Raven? You don't have to get it all at once."
trigons_child: (Not quite buying this)

Raven relented; she didn't sense any sickness still in Dana's body, at least, despite the color of her nails. "They are being stubborn," she said, brow furrowing. "But the infection is gone."

"Thank you," Scully said, deeply relieved. She tapped her nails on the desk. They didn't chime, but they did seem louder and stronger than before. "I feel better. And these aren't ..." What? "It's less unnerving than some scars after I've been sick." Far, far better than cancer, for instance.

"I am sorry I could not draw all of it out," Raven said, trying not to dwell in the twinge of injured pride. The blackness wasn't a sickness; it therefore wasn't something she could heal. "At least it is not very noticeable?"

"A little nail polish--" And maybe some really harsh filing. "And it'll be fine," Scully concluded. "You did great, really." Maybe it was a permanent mutation now, if it couldn't be healed? Good grief.

Something else to test when she was back in the Clinic.

"You are physically well, but how do you feel?" Raven asked, still concerned.

She could just check for herself, but that would be rude.

"I feel...." Scully paused, and realized it was mostly one word: exhausted. Physically, emotionally, mentally. "Like I need a very long nap," She admitted. "Emotionally otherwise-- stoic. I do good stoic." How many times had she been through this? She had the emotional dismount down by now.

"You are not responsible for anything you did while you were infected," Raven said gently. "The corruption controlled your actions. I know it is easier to say than believe, but it is true."

She still struggled with it herself.

"In my head, I do." Too much experience not to; she wasn't tying herself into knots. "But in my gut, I'm sickened at what I did, and that something took me over like that. It's a violation." She was quieter. "I don't do well with those." She paused, frowning. "Did we ever find out what it was, what it wanted? or was that all it wanted-- to infect?"

Raven shook her head. "I do not know," she said regretfully. "When healing those who were not infected did not work, many of us came to the conclusion that we must try to heal the land first, and push the corruption back into the rock. And once the rock was gone, Fandom could heal itself and we could heal those who were sickened. But if anyone knows a reason for why this happened, they have not shared it. I wish I knew."

Butters was making notes on his handouts, sure. It's just that most of the notes were drawings of rainbows and horses and little cartoons about people beating up aliens and going on a campaign to raise awareness of alien STDs.

He tried not to, though. He was trying to be good and watch the movie.

Gabrielle -- possibly predictably -- got way too into the movie, and kept muttering indignant things to herself about the factory supervisors.

When they got to the big climactic scene of the movie she just might have punched the air and audibly hissed "Yes! That's the way you do it!"

Karla tried to watch, but she kept nodding off. No offense meant to the movie! She was just still really tired.

Elphaba also got rather invested in the story of the movie, much to her own chagrin. She did, however, restrain herself from any outbursts... but was rather happy when Gabrielle had her own.

Billy found the movie more interesting than he'd expected, so he didn't have any problem staying awake.
