Fandom High Auditorium, Thursday Afternoon

As whatever was happening on the island became less and less likely to be cleared up with a good old fashioned fight, it seemed it was time to figure out just what to do next. So, a radio announcement let people know to meet up at the school to pool their resources and go over what they knew so far.

Even if some of the people who were supposed to be in charge weren’t looking quite so well anymore...

Gray wasn’t the most charming color when it came to human skin tone.

"Yeah, well. Different worlds, different ways of playin' with magic," Reno replied easily, holding it out toward Alistair. "They're pretty user friendly, yo. Plug 'em in and go. I've seen little kids figure out how to make use of this stuff without really tryin'."

And remote-controlled cats. And lion-dogs whose asses were on fire. So.

"Might as well give it a try, I suppose," Alistair said, wrapping his hands firmly around the sphere. He pressed it into the socket - clumsily - where it rested, doing nothing, for a second or two. "Now that was anti-climac--"

It sort of twisted and clicked; an arc of electricity shot up from the socket up to the end of the blade. "...Nevermind that."

And now Reno was sticking his tongue out at you, Alistair.

"Looks like it works, yo." See, nothing to it. "Gets stronger as you use it, too. Might not seem like much at first, but you use that enough and you'll be makin' twitchy little brain-fried monsters all over the place, yo."

Please, try to ignore the unholy glee in Reno's voice, there. He liked sharing the thunder.

"So they just... magically get stronger?" Alistair asked, running the blade through the air experimentally. It worked as lightning should, though he could feel it was at novice strength, at best. "I've never had a rune before that actually encouraged picking a few more fights..."

"Think of it like a muscle," Reno offered. "Exercise it, and it'll get stronger. Added bonus, once you get it up to as strong as it'll get, which is pretty damn strong, it'll drop a new one, back at the start. In case of emergency and you feel like you wanna share with people who got conveniently socketed weapons floatin' around, yo."

A little smirk.

"If you get it to drop a new one, I'll let you keep that. I got plenty."

Alistair squinted at his sword. "I can make baby lightning runes," he got from it all. "My mother would be so proud."

If he had any idea where she was.

"Way less work than bringin' up a kid," Reno offered, "and more useful in a fight, last I checked."

Reno's experience with children in battle was mostly that they were prone to sticking their fingers up his nose at inopportune moments.

"Oh, I don't know," Alistair drawled. "I've met some mighty feisty toddlers in my time. Could beat the legs off a dragon, those little tykes."

Still, he was going to admire his nice little lightening-y sword.

"What, bite 'em off at the ankles?" Reno smirked, reaching to clap Alistair on the shoulder. "Well, I'll leave 'em to you, then. I don't get along with most kids too well, yo."

Liiiies.

"Well, you know what children are like at that age," Alistair said, helpfully. "All collapsible fangs and 'I am youngster, hear me roar'. Would send a tremble through any dragon."

He was being Very Serious. Obviously.

Oh, totally. Reno could tell.

"Any ol' dragon, huh?" Reno would love to see some little kid taking on a Bahamut someday. Either he'd laugh his ass off, or freak out and try to jump in to help the kid. "Man, kids these days. In my day we were more worried about how to take on the worms that were gettin' into the food."

In his own defense, Gaian worms were huge.
