Tricks, Cons and Bamboozles | Tuesday | Period 4

“Well, we’re now halfway through the class,” Neal informed his students as they arrived, seated (as always) with his feet up on the desk and leaning back in his chair as far back as it went. “So today, I thought I’d take advantage of all the resources we have at this school to work on something kind of different.”

Sure enough, there were several racks of clothing scattered throughout the room, complete with just about any type of clothing a person could want in all imaginable sizes. Don’t ask how. They just were.

“Sometimes, when you’re running a scheme, you’ll need to take on a persona,” he explained. “Maybe it’s a mob leader, maybe it’s a housewife. A big part of it is being able to dress the part. If I showed up in a suit like this one to try to make a case for my being an FBI agent, I’d fall pretty flat.”

…It was true.

“So I have assignments for each of you. I want you to come up with a costume that matches your description, then pair up and try to guess each other’s. Everyone clear? Go for it.”

[[WELL THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION, LJ.]]

A class all about clothes. It was a dream come true for Caroline and she was totally ready to dive in. Possibly because she was working under the assumption that if Neal dressed that well, she could only imagine the clothes he would provide them.

As a boy, Jimmy would see some of the other Mockers dressed as befit their station. Golden Daze, wearing stylish and expensive clothes as he acted the fop to avail himself of old ladies' silver. Bashers, wearing leather armor castoffs. Beggars in tatters robes.

This would be interesting.

...exterminator?

Clearly Neal hated her because why else would he make Caroline dress up like someone who killed bugs for a living. Not cool.

Even after she dressed herself in ill-fitting men's coveralls and an unattractive belt, the look on her face had yet to improve as she muttered about her luck.

Was there actually a difference between buccaneers and pirates? Quinn pondered this as she selected a ridiculously ruffled shirt, tight breeches, high boots, and a bright headscarf. She thought she sort of rocked the look.

Housewife. Ahahahahahahahahahah.

The green wig came off immediately, as Kenzi stared at her card. A scarf helped. A little.

Of all the things she'd never aspired to be... Jeans, a big sweatshirt, sneakers. A big Mom-purse. Honestly, she wasn't totally clear on what someone who stayed home and dealt with kids wore. Or not kids? Unclear!

Priest? Priest? That was fucking hilarious. Seriously, Nathan almost had to excuse himself to laugh because the only reason he'd be in a church was to see if he could desecrate a confessional.

The outfit itself was easy. Black pants, black button up shirt, black jacket and he even cut a white tie up to have a collar that slid under the collar of his shirt. Now, he just wished he had a bible but he could make due with a bright smile!

A cheerleader? Seriously? Lindsay was pretty much the anti-cheerleader, so this was going to be awkward.

She did two things for this assignment no one at this school had likely ever seen. She wore a frilly skirt thing and put her hair up into a giant pony tail. And yes, she felt very awkward.

James smirked.
He picked up some soft-soled leather dress shoes, light suit pants, long-sleeved dressy shirt with cuffs that fit just right, and a thick suitcoat. He looked like a banker from this world; clad in silent clothes for quick movement and thick enough to hide small bulges.

Maybe she's a college student? Or a pre-school teacher? Or someone who just doesn't want to get their clothes dirty?
