How To Avoid Misadventure, Monday, Period 4
When students entered the Danger Shop, they would find their teachers... already in a bit of a conversation.
"That," Alistair said, gesturing at the simulated... illusionary... thing standing frozen next to him, "Is not a proper darkspawn."
"Is there such a thing as an improper darkspawn?" Morrigan asked, poking at it with the tip of her staff. "'Tis ugly, as they are. Perhaps 'tis but a deformed 'spawn. Or its mother dropped it as a childling."
"Fine, I'll give you ugly," Alistair said. He was fighting the urge to pull the creature's face into funny shapes while it was standing there like that. "But it's not exactly a hurlock, is it? It doesn't even look like it'd make for a very good genlock, I mean, look at the teeth..." He paused. "...But right, darkspawn are darkspawn."
Really weird darkspawn.
"And darkspawn, children, are not friendly," Morrigan said, turning to regard their students. "Those who are on a quest often find themselves chased or doing the chasing, by forces friendly or hostile."
"So today we'll really be putting your packing skills to the test," Alistair said, his face smoothing out until serious earnestly remained. "Take the bags you packed last week, and go from here," he pointed at the ground, "to there," 'there' being 'down the hill, across the field and through the bushes to that fortress over there', "While several of these lovely gentlemen are chasing you."
He patted the frozen sort-of-darkspawn on the shoulder.
"Now shoo," Morrigan said encouragingly as she waved a hand to start the simulation. "Unless you want to become their lunch."

During the Lecture
Re: During the Lecture
Probably.
Re: During the Lecture
No matter how much she told herself, there was no way she wasn't going to run like hell.
Re: During the Lecture
"Cheer up, grumpy-puss," he told the scowling visage. "At least your mother doesn't dress you funny."
Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
But that wasn't what the instructions had said, and so, while he'd considered flying, he'd wound up just sucking it up and running anyhow. He didn't lose much time. The ugly guys behind him were incentive enough to keep going fast.
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Maybe if he ran in circles at the bottom of the hill to make an air cushion underneath her... oh, she was flying? huh. okay.
So he slowed down and ran alongside her. He waved "That was neat."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
She smiled shyly as she touched back down to the ground. "Um, thanks," she said, blushing a little. "You think so? I'm not supposed to do that back home. I keep forgetting I won't get in trouble for it here."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
He runs back to the darkspawn, making faces and sticking his tongue out at them, then ran back to her. "It's fun, though."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"That's so cool! Are you a mutant, too?" she asked.
[ooc: I'm about to head to bed -- slow play OK?]
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"I can access the SpeedForce. It's a fundamental force of the universe. It lets me run real fast... and some other things, but the running is the main part." Bart liked this whole "being able to show off powers" thing.
"So you can fly? Are you a hero too? Are you with a team? What's your superhero name? Mine's Impulse." Bart talked almost as fast as he ran, but she was another hero, this was exciting.
[ooc: Yeah, sure, no problem. I should sleep too.]
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"Yeah, Max wasn't so thrilled when I joined Young Justice. But I overheard him say that being around them might be good for me. Teams are good. They're fun too."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"So... what's a Mutant?" He was clearly curious, but didn't really want to admit he didn't know what she was talking about.
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
He sighed. "We don't use our powers and stuff in public because villains like to go after our families and stuff. So not cool."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"If I'm not really careful, I could start a fire by accident," she said. "Ms. Frost was teaching me how to control my powers before she sent me here."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"Neat. I can just run real fast and vibrate through walls and such. Max has been teaching me to be a better hero, but I'm not sure how much more I need to learn."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Like the X-Men. Except they were nice to her, which still had her confused.
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
He took a deep breath and smiled at her. "It's neat to meet all these heroes here. And to not worry about secret identities or villains trying to kidnap me all the time. Though I kinda miss my friends."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
She flashed a smile at Bart. "Maybe we could make our own superhero team here. But there don't seem to be many supervillains to fight."
Tempting fate, she was.
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
"And plus, half the fun of a superhero team is just hanging out and having fun, then being awesome and beating up villains when they pop up."
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
After everyone else had started running, Bart was stretching for a few seconds, then he was off. There was a blur of big feet and floppy hair and he was already in the fort. He put his bag of stuff down and ran back to see how people were doing.

Re: Run for the Hills! (or Fort)
Running away from monsters was something Hank excelled at. He'd packed light, which helped. It quickly didn't matter, anyway, since he managed to get the pack snagged on the branch of a lone, easily-avoided tree and had to abandon it there.
He stumbled and fell a few times, but managed to make it safely to the fort well ahead of the monster things.
