Defying Death, Friday, First Period

The Danger Shop looked like a pair of rooftops today. On one rooftop was a television. That's the one the students stepped onto. On the other rooftop - across an alley - was Dick. Between the roofs was a cable. It was thick enough to step on, but only if you were very balanced or very crazy. Dick, having a great sense of balance, strolled across it casually as if it was nothing. "Hi. I just walked across a tightrope. You could give it a shot too, or you could just watch a recent documentary called Man On Wire about Philippe Petite, a man who spent a day in 1974 setting up a high wire between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York and then walking across it, much to the amazement of everyone watching from their offices and the ground below."

"Or do both. But if you're going across this wire to practice for something like Petite did, just remember, what he did was illegal and he was arrested," Dick said. "Just keep that in mind. Now it's movie time."

Annie was not getting on any wires, thank ou. She'd be here, watching the movie. And taking notes on it, as she was a nerd.

Walking across a wire seemed less boring than watching a film about a man walking across a wire, so Cara took that option.

Hank gingerly stuck out a foot and prodded the wire with his toe. Nervous, he extended his arms for balance, planted his foot on the wire firmly, and steeled his resolve. Then he shifted his weight and hurriedly brought his other foot out onto the wire.

He immediately started teetering, of course. He manged to hurry forward a few steps, swaying from side to side, before he tilted too far and fell off. Luckily, he managed to catch the wire under an armpit so he didn't plummet too far.

He hung there with a big grin on his face, blocking anyone who wanted to get onto the rope behind him. "I did it!!! Did you see me?!?!? I did it!!!"

Roy could probably get from point A to point B on that wire without dying, but he's not in any hurry to do it just yet. He's not the acrobat here, after all.
