Music 101/Band Practice Open Day for Parents

Professor Ted is in the music classroom. He has a fresh stack of Twinkies, soda and other assorted junk foods spread out on the round table that he stole from King Arthur. The room is clean and tidy. The projector is playing a music video on the screen and Van Halen can be heard blaring from the room.

"TA? That's excellent news. He didn't tell me that. What kinds of music do you teach here, Professor?"

"Well, uh, my background is rock. I'm part of a rock band, Wyld Stallyns. But we totally teach all different kinds of music. Last week we did interpretive music, like finding music in real life, and the week before we had a guest teacher, Professor Beethoven, to teach the little dudes about classical music."

Jack chokes. "Beethoven? Beethoven was here? Might I ask how?" Jack is already considering many varied therapists to send John to once this weekend ends.

"Time travel, most esteemed-looking parent dude! He owns a music store in town now if you wanna go talk to him. May I say that your son has adjusted to the oddity of Fandom High with the greatest of ease. He's a most excellent TA and is totally the top of his class."

Jack smiles broadly. "That's what I like to hear about my son. I wasn't sure about music as a class when he told me he was taking it but when he excels, I'm proud of him. You seem to run a very laid back class, Professor. Does that help or inhibit the learning experience?"

"Well, I know from my experience in high school, that scary teachers means a scary class that kids don't want to go to. So, like, that means if they don't want to go, then they don't want to learn. But with MY classes, the little dudes and dudettes come in, they have fun and they learn stuff while they have fun. We have a lot of discussions about the stuff we learn, so when they all talk it out, they seem to be able to understand it a whole lot better. Happy student dudes make good student dudes."

"I haven't needed to! The little dudes show up, they do their work, they join in on the discussion and they leave. They even do all their homework! It's totally weird."

Ted's expression turned from excited and enthusiastic to weirded out. "Uh.. he's not on the curriculum. Maybe next semester if I get permission to teach Music 102: Croakers and Crooners."
