Teambuilding for Dummies [Thursday, 4th Period]

"Good afternoon. Nice to see you all got my instructions to met me at the main campfire," Oz said by way of introduction, tossing a small, off-white ball from one hand to the other. Those would be the instructions he'd left on the classroom door, which had led to the Danger Shop, then the library, then the gym, and then finally the campgrounds. Sure, he could have just sent an email, but where was the challenge in that? "Now if you could all form a circle around me. The faster the better."

He waited for the students to finish getting into a circle, pointedly looking at his watch several times. "Few things to get out of the way before we begin. First, this class is Teambuilding for Dummies, and I'm assuming you're all meant to be here, if you're not, too bad. Next, you can call me Oz, or 'Boss' if you want something a little more formal. Finally, my office hours are Fridays, and I'm in the market for an assistant and all around gofer, so if anyone's interested come up to me and I'll think about it."

"Now, about the class itself. In addition to being your teacher, I own a company called Contra Security, as the name might imply we do security and we do it well. The main reason for that, teamwork. Every member of my team knows their job, and knows how to work together to do the job. We'll be using some of the same techniques here that I use to promote teambuilding with my employees." Sadly, none of Oz's employees were nearby to explain how this wasn't such a good thing.

"You are my new team, and by the end of the summer I will make sure that you are well oiled a machine as my old one." Again, sadly none of said team were around to tell the students that was as much a threat as a promise.

"The first step towards that goal is getting to know each other. So you're going to tell the class your name, your age, something interesting about yourselves, and what skills you think you can bring to our team, if anyone says something that piques your interest, or you share a hobby, or anything like that, feel free to ask each other for more information. But, so we don't end up speaking over each other, we've got this." He held up the ball. "See this ball? The only time anyone not me is allowed to speak is when they've got the ball, which means that you're going to have to toss it to each other, try not to let it touch the ground too much, and that whoever has the ball has to keep an eye out for anyone who looks like they want to say something. I'm expecting everyone to catch and throw the ball at least once today."

Oz tossed the ball towards a random student. "And for those of you who aren't particularly coordinated, don't worry about fumbling the ball, C-4 is generally considered one of the most stable plastic explosives."

[OCD is up!]

Look, Gabrielle juggling Nerf balls was a recipe for disaster. Gabrielle juggling C-4? There was no way on Earth that would end well, especially if she didn't quite know what it was.

Mostly, she looked concerned about the juggling aspect. That was just bad.

Well, Peter thought, trying - and failing - not to stare with too much abject horror, At least he leaves an impression.

Topher was normally not very coordinated, but now he had incentive. He caught the ball underhand in both hands, making sure to keep it perfectly cradled as he gave his introduction.

"Uh, Topher Brink. Fifteen. I... have always wanted to mess around with some C-4, and I'm kind of a computer whiz."

Tony was innocently minding his own business! Because he couldn't put simple things together to realize someone he went to school with was actually an evil mastermind. PETER. WAIT, NO... TOPHER. WAIT, NO... GENE KHAN (http://iron-man-armored-adventures.wikia.com/wiki/Gene_Khan).

Oh god, he was so special.

So he was just going to doodle a cell phone design and SOMEHOW NOT HEAR ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS ABOUT TOPHER.

Quinn caught the ball easily and held it tightly while she spoke. She suspected it wasn't real C4, but she wasn't taking any chances.

"Quinn Fabray," she began. "I'm 17, I used to be head of the celibacy club at my old school, and I'm a former cheer captain. I'm good at motivating through fear."

Gabrielle let out a little yelp and bobbled the ball a couple of times before she wrapped both arms around it and cradled it like . . . well, from her point of reference, a giant mystical jewel of untold value/power/actually-nothing-but-everyone-thought-otherwise.

"I'm Gabrielle, I'm seventeen -- possibly eighteen by now, it's hard to tell -- and I have pretty good persuasive skills. I mean, hey -- talking the Cyclops out of eating me might've been beginner's luck, but that was years and dozens of dire situations ago, and I'm still here."

Peter caught the ball. It would be very stupid to die here this way, he thought. I bet my parents would skimp on the obituary, too, and they'll remember me as Peter, the stupid teenager who died because he couldn't keep his grip on a stupid ball.

"I'm Peter Wiggin. I'm fifteen, I'm the oldest of three siblings, and I'm pretty good at doing PR stuff."

Huge understatement.

Squall wasn't particularly worried about the C-4.

"Squall Leonhart. Eighteen. I have experience giving and taking orders in a combat situation."

Lindsay wasn't quite sure if the ball was really C-4 or not, but since she was told it was, she made sure not to drop it.

"Lindsay Weir," she said. "I'm seventeen and I'm really good at math."

As long as he didn't do something horrible like add a trigger mechanism, this should be fine. Just fine.

...at least this teacher had both arms and no distracting breasts.

"My name is Tony," he said, looking more closely at the ball. "I'm sixteen, I technically own my own company and I have a few dozen patents on file."

Billy handled the ball very, very carefully after he caught it, just in case their teacher was for real.

"I'm Billy Kaplan, I'm 15, I'm an only child, and, um, I'm pretty good in a combat situation, even though I might not look like it." Maybe Oz wouldn't ask why, and he could just get rid of this thing.

"Jack McCallister," Jack said when it was his turn. He was being very delicate with the explosive. He knew better than to doubt some of the weird people this school hired. "I'm seventeen, I share a room with that guy," he pointed out Tony. What? It was interesting sometimes. "And I'm athletic."

Topher had a very important question.

"So, this gofer gig," he said, coming up to Oz at the end of class. "Does it involve playing with more explosives?"
