Monkey Business; Thursday, Period Two [ 07/07 ].
For all intents and purposes, Jane supposed she could have held the first class in a regular classroom, but what fun was that? She'd ensured that the news got to each of her students that they would be meeting in the danger shop, where they would find themselves stepping into a deep, think jungle of Africa, into a clearing set up like a camp and classroom combined, with just a few desks, since it was such a small class. And they were spared, so far, the threat of three blackboards; today, there was only one, and on it was written: MISS PORTER WELCOMES YOU TO MONKEY BUSINESS!
"Come in, come in!" Jane ushered them to their seats excitedly. "And welcome to Monkey Business. This will be our classroom for the few short weeks we'll be together;p a bit more interesting than a traditional classroom, I should hope! As you are all probably away, this class will be all about primates, and we will be looking at a different primate each week. Naturally, that means we'll only be skimming the top of a plethora of utterly fascinating and incredible creatures, but, if you aren't interested in primates already, you hopefully soon will be!
"Today, however, we're going to be learning about the primates known as Homo sapiens, or more commonly called human beings, in other words, ourselves." She did take a quick glance around to make sure all the students were humans, and, so far, so good! She knew by now that looks could be deceiving, but they appeared to be an incredibly normal trio of teens. "I'd like to get to know a little bit about you, and what brought you into this class, and what your favourite primate might be. For example, my name is Miss Porter, and I have been a budding primatologist since as long as I can remember. My father was a primatologist before me and my mother had a healthy appetite for knowledge and curiosity. I'm proud to say I've made many trips into the jungles in hopes to study and observe primates in their natural habitats. I'm also quite lucky to be a primatologist from the late nineteenth century, where many fascinating studies are being done on evolution and the relation between humans and other primates. They've gotten a bit further than all that in this day and age, but I still find it all terribly exciting.
"My favourite primate, though it is so terribly difficult to choose just one, has the rather unimpressive denotation of Gorilla gorilla, so I suppose you can guess which primate I mean! The Great Apes of the world are quite possibly our closest cousins in the primatology family, and I have spent a great deal of my life,"--she said it like someone who had lived a long life indeed, despite her clear youthfulness--"studying them and being fascinated by them. Naturally, since they're my favourite, we will be talking about them at more length later, so I will not bore you with all of that now, and I will turn the floor over to you.

Introductions - Monkey Business, 07/07.
Feel free to chat amongst each other for a good deal of the class, as well. There aren't many in the class, so it shouldn't take long, and Jane knew that any busy work she mind have tried to come up with would be a bit more than just busy work...
