Western Literature and Poetry: Open Classroom

Professor Chaucer's classroom is open for any students, parents, or random droppers-by who'd like to visit. He'll be in all day, and if no one stops in -- well, it's a good quiet place to catch up on some work for his new patron.

EDITED: It's been announced that the deadline for drop/add is Tuesday. Enrollment is still open for Introduction to Western Literature until that time. Any interested students can sign up here.

On her way out to get lunch, Sonia passes by Chaucer's classroom, and gives the man a smile and a wave.

Geoff smiles and returns Sonia's wave as he sees her pass by the door. He hopes that she'll be coming back later with whatever friends or family have come to visit for the weekend.

Sonia pauses and pokes her head into the room.

"Hey, how's everything going so far?"

Geoff shrugs. "I just got here, actually. You're the first person to drop by." He smiles and motions her inside. "I have some interesting news for you. I've managed to get myself a patron. And, we have another commission request for a coat of arms."

She steps inside and leans against one of the desks. "Vell, it's early yet," she says, grinning.

At his announcement, her grin spreads even wider. "A patron? That's fantastic! Anyone I vould know, or is this the sort of...anonymous benefactor patronage? And another commission? Vell...that is interesting- and good news!"

"Actually, I'm sure it someone you know -- Professor Cregg." He grins as well, and leans back in his chair. "And the commission is for Marty Blank -- I'll tell you more about it when we have some time to talk at the shop."

[OOC: Sounds good!]

She thinks for a moment. "Professor Cregg...yes, I think ve met over Zombie veekend."

Sonia nods and adjusts the bag over her shoulder. "Oh, that vill be fine- I should probably let you get to your parents, and I promised Ludvig I'd stop in today and help him get some things in order. He's mentioned vanting to meet you again- is there a good time or day for you?"

"I'd like to talk with him again myself. He's seems like a really interesting person. What about Monday?"

"He is...interesting. And he's picked up a considerable amount of English, so he'll be a little better about communicating. In fact, I was just off to try and find him a better dictionary."

She pauses and thinks for a moment, then nods. "Monday should be fine- the shop closes early in the evening, so it vould probably be a little after that? I'll ask him vhen is good, and I'll try and let you know?"

"That sounds good, but I'd be more than happy to come by his shop to visit him."

"Oh! Vell, I'm sure that vould be fine as well. I'll let him know- he'll be glad to have some visitors."

"Good! Then I'll try to get by there Monday, and if not then I'll look for him come by whenever he can."

Patty enters the classroom wearing a forced smile, Angela in tow and Danielle meandering along behind. She goes to greet Geoff as Angela stands back with a Please don't embarass me look on her face.

"Excuse me, are you Mr. Chaucer? I'm Patty Chase, Angela's mom. She told me she really likes your class."

Geoff stands and offers his hand, with a quick smile for Angela. "It's a pleasure to meet you, madame. I very much enjoy having Angela in my class."

Patty takes his hand for a firm handshake, giving him a smile and turning back to Angela with 'is he for real?' eyes. "Well, that's good to hear. What type of projects will you have them participating in this year?"

Angela tucks her hair behind her ear. "We're studying poetery, and writing it. He just took over the English classes a few weeks ago. The old teacher ... left."

Bowing slightly over Patty's hand and smiling, Geoff replies, "They'll be required to produce an original poem every couple of weeks, based on what we're covering in class at that point."

With another smile for Angela as well, he adds, "Our first class only met last week, but I'm very pleased with the enthusiasm all of my students bring to the subject."

"And what are your qualifications? Are you a substitute, or will you be taking on the class long-term?"

Patty looks stern, but really she is inwardly wary of Angela taking this type of course, especially with a 'young', attractive teacher.

Geoff raises an eyebrow at the question about 'qualifications', but in the interest of saving Angela from any more embarassment than is unavoidable, he just smiles. "I'm a writer by profession, madame. And although I've just come in as a substitute, I hope the administration will see fit to keep me on."

He recognizes Patty's wariness and decides not to mention that he's never taught before, or that he's acquainted with Angela outside of class.

Angela shoots Geoff a grateful smile. "He's a really good teacher, mom."

"Mom ... this is boring. Mom, there's a bake sale next door, can we go? I'm hungry."

*under her breath* "Angela gets all the hot teachers..."

Patty turns to Danielle, "Excuse me, Professor.

Danielle, we can go in just a minute. Let Angela say goodbye to her professor."

She turns back to Chaucer. "Well, I wish you luck. Thank you for your time."

"Thanks, Mom. Goodbye, Mr. Chaucer."

When Patty turns, she mumbles -- very fast and very quietly -- "youweregreatgeoffthankyouihavebignewstellyoulater."

Geoff gives Angela a wink, and mouths "You're welcome. Come see me later."

Angela winks back and shoots him a thumbs-up before turning to go.

"It was my pleasure. I hope you're enjoying your visit to Fandom." Geoff gives another small bow to Patty, and a grin and a bow to Danielle as well.

"Thank you," Patty nods, and follows Angela outside.

((will you be online tomorrow cos Grams isn't about til then and she might like to meet Geoff :D))

[I won't be online til evening. I could maybe work out something to catch just you in the morning, though, as I know you're UK.]

((I'm at the boyfriend's tomorrow so can stay up late that would probably suit the Grams mun better too, so tomorrow evening will be fine thank you!))
