Hero Management- Monday- Period 3- Class #5

Hermione was not happy to be facing a class today, to be honest. If she wasn't who she was, she might have even considered calling off class, but since the thought of that about gave her hives, she was here, and she was getting things out of the way first thing.

"Anyone who mentions the weekend is getting detention," she greeted the class. "Now that that's over with, let's talk about rules. The reason that rules are in place are because they protect people, or set guidelines for safety or behavior. Even if you don't necessarily like rules, they're there for a reason and they should be respected and followed. That said, there are times that rules do need to be bent or broken in order for you to do what you need to do. Not everyone is always going to agree with you, and it's nothing that should be taken lightly. If you are going to break a rule, you should use your common sense and I know you all have it, and keep the consequences in mind. It should be done for a good reason, and not just because you feel like it, or because you're not thinking.

"Today we're going to have a class discussion. I want everyone to come up with a rule, whether it be a school rule or law or whatever else you can come up with, and talk about whether or not you think that particular rule is okay to break and when." And hopefully Hermione wouldn't end up twitching over any of the discussion. If there was going to be a class where that happened, this would be it.

Percy didn't know what he'd missed but after the professor's statement about not discussing it, he almost wanted to discuss it now. Maybe he could find someone else that knew. Listening to the radio never worked because he could never pay attention long enough.

Luke had to admit he was a little curious about what happened this weekend. Radio made absolutely no sense when he had listened to it. He had to ignore that part of him that made him want to do the opposite of what he was told.

After the weekend, Raven really didn't want to go to class. But she pulled herself together, pushing her emotions down, and made herself go. Rule-breaking wasn't something she was fond of at all, though she understood the need to do so sometimes.

Rules? A. Aha. AHAHAHAHAHAHA no.

Look, Surreal had been raised by Titian and Sadi and Tersa. She knew the rules for Protocol, but never used them, and Sadi and Titian had been more interested in teaching her how to bend and break rules rather than follow them.

Except the rules about keeping safe from Kartane. Those were so deeply ingrained in Surreal that even now, it was sometimes hard to remember it was okay to style her hair in a manner that let her ears show.

Jack was half listening to the lecture. What he seemed most interested in was the bowl of Coco Puffs he brought into class that he was devouring.

While wearing a bathrobe and pajamas.

Yeah, he wasn't taking the weekend very well.

"At one of my old schools, we had a rule about not running in the halls but if you're being chased down by something that wants to kill you, I think it's pretty safe to run. A brisk walk just isn't gonna cut it," Percy decided.

Luke was naturally likely to disobey any rule, whether it was okay to break it or not. "Um...I would say that most rules are okay to break in an emergency."

Like that time he broke into Best Buy and cleared out the Xbox aisle. That was an emergency. A video game emergency.

"Well," said Wesley, who was also a rules guy. "A friend of mine... she competed in an arena where there was only meant to be one survivor, and she and the other remaining contestant threatened to kill themselves so that they both might be allowed to live."

This was what he had been thinking about lately.

"I was raised to believe that there was never a reason to justify violence," Raven said. "Even if it meant your own death, or others'. But I have since learned since I came here that there are things worth fighting for."

Jack was a bit torn here. You could tell because he was really interested in his bowl of Coco Puffs.

"Pretty much any rule that keeps you from protecting someone from getting harmed is one that should be broken," Jack said with a frown. "But it'd have to be a pretty dumb rule to do that. Especially if the person involved is a victim to begin with."

Luke had missed class last week and, amazingly, it was the first class he missed since taking up this whole school thing again. He thought he could get away with not saying anything about it, but after the whole rules lecture he decided not to risk it.

"I swear to the gods I'm not here to talk to you about the weekend." He felt that would be a good way to start the conversation off on the right foot.

"I just wanted to say sorry for missing class last week," Luke said. "I had to deal with something important involving a friend. Professor Skywalker will back me up, I was with him."

He paused.

"But not with him."

Weird things popped into his head sometimes and for some reason he had the urge to vocalize them.

Wesley did his best to put aside the memory of talking to Hermione over the weekend when he approached her. If he'd turned into a farm boy who spent all his time looking for a princess, she had the right to go a little crazy too.

"Hello," he said awkwardly. "Ah. I just wanted to apologize for missing class last week."

Oh, whoops. "Week" sounded like "weekend" and now he was thinking about it again. Yikes.
