Try Not to Die!! [Tuesday, May 31]

Anakin realized that he was teaching a class called "Try Not to Die" but this morning he wasn't feeling either the exclamation points or the need to put the students into even slightly dangerous situations.

Blame three days of watching the Hunger Games for that. He sent out handwavy messages for the students to meet him at the Danger Shop instead of on the causeway, and the environment that greeted the students was decidedly...chocolatey. The sun was shining brightly overhead, complete with the sorts of fluffy clouds you only found in movies or children's drawings.

"Welcome to my version of a land made of candy," he said. "Try not to get to distracted by how everything is edible--you still have several tasks to complete." With that, he gestured toward the clue box and stepped out of the way.

Gabrielle could think of a few things. A trip home right this second to pour her heart out to Xena and cry and get hugs (ideally by a campfire in the middle of the night), a way to get to Panem and find Katniss's family, the ability to change entire countries through sheer force of will. Nothing that resided anywhere outside the realm of what if, really, except that first one, so she bit her lip and shook her head slightly.

"No. I just need to get some sleep, I think . . . I'll be all right."

"Stop by to see me on Thursday?" Anakin asked softly.

"I will," Gabrielle promised without even having to think about it. "You'll probably be busy that day, but . . . I'll stop in."

"I don't care how busy I'll be," he promised, "I want to see you."

"You will." Gabrielle rubbed pointlessly at a splotch of ink on the back of her hand, but looked up at him. "I can't exactly claim I got lost on the way there any more, can I?"

"Not really," Anakin agreed with a tiny smile. "If you run into the others, let them know I'd like to see them as well. I wasn't sure if leaving voicemails might not be too pushy."

"I -- okay," Gabrielle replied, nodding quickly. It gave her an excuse to check in on them, anyway. "It's probably better for them to hear in person, anyhow."
