Hero Management- Monday- Period 3- Class #4

The weather was beginning to get to Hermione. It was also starting to get to her hair (okay, to be honest, it had been getting to her hair) which had poofed out and nothing she could do seemed to tame it at all. She'd tried for class, she had, but hopefully no one would find it too distracting.

"So far we've talked about researching and preparing for when you support the hero's plan and want to help," she began, "but you probably won't always feel that way. Sometimes the plan can have some inherent flaw that you need to point out, or they want to break some rule that you know will only get them into more trouble without any benefit, or they just outright want to face their enemy when you know it's a bad idea. Or perhaps they want to go off alone when you know they need a team behind them. At these times, they're going to need someone to disagree with them. You don't have to blindly go along with a plan just because they came up with it. At the very least, if you point out flaws, it might improve the plan they have. The important thing is to not hit them, no matter how much they deserve it. They won't listen to you at all if you do that."

Not that Hermione had ever been tempted to do that. Nope. Never.

"For today's exercise, I'd like you all to to choose from one of three scenarios that someone else will talk you out of. You can come up with as much detail for the scenario as you'd like as long as you tell the other person, and you'll both practice trying to talk some sense into each other."

The first scenario was something that rang familiar to Percy so he'd chosen that one and was thinking about it while waiting for a partner.

All of those scenarios sounded kind of familiar to Stephanie, but she opted for the third one, since she could be as vague as she needed to be about it. Convenient, huh?

Oh, yes. Scully knew nothing about this at all, Mulder.

She sat down next to Stephane, and said dryly, "Talking me out of something, or am I stopping you from being an idiot?"

Stephanie shrugged and held up both hands. "Do I look like the type of person to run off into these situations?"

Don't answer that.

"I'd probably be the one doing the talking-out-of, but if you don't mind me making it up out of places best left unmentioned, I could pretend to be an idiot."

[OOC: Also I am running out of the house for a bit, but back later!]

"You couldn't pretend to be as big an idiot as some people I know, but I could use the practice. We could switch later, if you like." Scully's lips crimped in a rueful smile. "So, Stephanie, why do you think this is a good plan?"

[*waves bye for now*]

Bet Bruce would think differently.

"Because it's the best one we have, and time's a-wastin'," Stephanie answered, snapping her fingers. "We either go in now, completely blind, or lose the chance completely."

It took everything Scully had not to call her Mulder right then, or bat at her fingers. She settled for a glare. "Going in completely blind means we could get caught, hurt, or worse, scare off the people we're trying to catch. Not to mention the illegality. Or have you forgotten that?"

Re: Pair Up!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-05-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pff," Stephanie replied, waving a hand. "What's more illegal: going in the way we're gonna, or what those guys have been up to? Besides, you have to admit the danger's part of the fun."

Which was true, really, as far as she was concerned. Shh on that, though.

It was all scarily familiar. "I'm not caring about the fun, I care about getting the job done. Which can be done safely and sanely after we obtain a warrant. Or at least back-up. Besides, we'll get another chance at them. Sometime."

Re: Pair Up!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"And how many more times will they get the chance to get away with the same kind of crap they always do between now and this 'sometime?'" Stephanie demanded, actually doing air quotes around that 'sometime.'

Whoa. A little too Method there, Steph.

"How much more damage do we risk letting 'em do if we wait for all the red tape?"

And really, this was why Bruce got such headaches about her.

And why Mulder gave Scully such migraines. "We can't stop them like this. The most we can do is slow them down for one evening, at the risk of not being able to stop them permanently." Scully blew out a breath, and rested her chin in her hands. "Remember how hurt you got the last time this happened?"

Not that that argument ever worked on "I'll Walk The Brain-Probe Off" Mulder.

She remembered Bruce getting temporarily blinded, which made this hit a little too close to home; there was a momentary wince before Stephanie managed a casual shrug.

"I got better. Come on, daylight's burning!"

Re: Pair Up!

Scully paused, wanting to see what Steph would do if she did something she never did with Mulder. "I'm not going. Nope."

Re: Pair Up!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Steph would never try this ploy with Batman, that was for sure.

"Fine then," she said breezily, shrugging as she got up as if about to saunter off into certain danger all alone. "I guess I'll just have to go take care of everything myself."

Scully tried to stay. Realy she did.

"No no no no... do I have to taze you?" Scully stood up to stomp-follow Steph. "Please, come on, we can get the police to help if you wait!"

Chuck could... totally not see himself in any of these situations.

But he could try and pretend. The second one seemed most likely, though, so for the moment he was planning for that one.
