Hero Management- Monday- Period 3- Class #3

Today the students would find themselves in a simulated department store, minus all the pesky customers who didn't understand how to steer a cart around other people or kids throwing tantrums or any of the other fn stuff you might see in a normal store. Mainly because today Hermione did not feel like putting up with that today.

"Welcome back to being back to normal," she greeted them "Now let's get right to it, shall we? Oftentimes you might get dragged out on some sort of adventure or mission or whatever you'd like to call it, and most people don't think to prepare as well as they should. Sometimes you're not able to prepare, and have to rush off to do something with very little warning and very little time to gather supplies. Or you might not know much about where you're going or what you're headed into and you won't know exactly what you need. Those times can get annoying, mostly after the fact when you realize there was something you should have brought of when you find yourself in trouble and thinking 'I wish I had this thing I don't have!'

"Today we're going to work on preparation. I didn't think the island would be moving already, and I haven't had the appropriate amount of time to change my lesson plan to be specific to where we are now, so we're going to be operating as if we were still in Egypt." And if she sounded a little annoyed at that, well, she was a little peeved at the island today. "You're going to be headed out into the desert, let's say to find someone who's gone missing, not knowing exactly how long you'll be gone. It could be a few hours, it could be a few days. Taking what you know about your setting, I want you to go through the store and find what you feel are the necessary supplies you'll need to survive or just to help your search. You can work together, if you'd like. and at the end of class I'd like you to explain some of what you've gathered and why you think it's important."

Shopping? Warren couldn't help but grin as he listened to the lecture. The rain might have been keeping him out of the skies outside of class hours, but this was an entirely different sort of way for Warren to be in his element.

If there was one thing a Worthington knew how to do well, it was spend money.

Percy...typically left the shopping to his mom and hadn't really needed to shop at Camp Half Blood. If they were going into the desert, he figured they'd need water but everything else, he was gonna have to pick on the fly.

Huh. Shopping. That's something he hadn't done in years. The lesson wasn't something he'd ever really need to use thanks to his powers but he went along with it anyway.

Okay, so, if they were going to be looking for a missing person in the desert, they were going to need a lot of things, preferably all small and light enough to be hauled around for an extended period of time through the sand.

A water bottle and sunscreen were both probably a good start. A sleeping bag? He'd heard that the desert tended to get cold after dark. Or maybe a flashlight, so that the search party could rest during the hottest hours of the day, and still go looking after dark...

It was going to be very, very difficult to keep this haul light.

Percy headed into the store, still thinking of what he was going to buy. He ended up getting several canteens, liters of water that he could fill the canteens with, foods like raising and trail mix since they could be rationed for longer, sunglasses, sunscreen, a Swiss army knife and a lantern.

It didn't seem like that much stuff but Percy didn't want to get weighed down either. He tossed in some first aid products and a backpack to carry things.

If there was one thing a Vulcan knew, it was desert preparedness. Spock's shopping expedition was almost clinical in its efficiency.

"I got a few canteens and water so I could have something to drink," Percy explained. "And added some raising and trail mix to that since you can get a lot in a few bags and ration it out if you're out there for awhile. There's first aid supplies in case someone gets hurt, sunglasses and sunscreen to avoid getting sunburned too badly, a lantern for nightfall, and a Swiss army knife for protection or to kill any animals you might need to eat."

He paused and held up the backpack. "The pack's what I hope to carry it all in. It's not like I could carry all of this in my arms."

"I purchased a pack with a reservoir for water, a hiker's GPS device for navigation and compass for backup, binoculars to aid in searching for the missing person over distance, water to fill the reservoir, energy bars, a first aid kit, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a tarp," Spock rattled off. After a moment he added, "The tarp can serve as protection from the sun, or the cold once night falls. Additionally, if the person we are searching for is injured when we find them, it can be fashioned into a stretcher."
