Life's a Circus, Friday, Second Period

Just as it would every week, the Danger Shop was set up to look, sound, and feel like the inside of a circus tent today. As students filtered in, they could check out the clowns, get some cotton candy, or just watch out high above them as their teacher was doing some tricks on the trapeze until the bell rang to start class.

Once that happened, Dick called out, "I'll be right there!" and let go of the trapeze at the peak of a swing. He dropped three stories straight down.... into the safety net. Safety first, kids.

Once he climbed out of that, he gave the assembled students a smile. "Hi, and welcome to Life's a Circus. I'm Mr Grayson. I figure most of you know what a circus is, but just in case, it's basically a traveling assortment of trained animals and trained humans doing amazing things for the enjoyment of locals. More importantly to me, it's the life I grew up in. I don't know if you guys were paying attention to me when I was on the trapeze, but that was stuff I was doing since I could walk. I haven't performed in a circus in nearly fifteen years, but all of that training is still in me somewhere."

"And actually, the same could be said of a lot of things I learned in the circus. I first learned car maintenance on a clown car, and you'll have to deal with that next week. But that's next week. This week, I want to make it clear that there's room for everyone in the circus. Are you athletic? You can be an acrobat. Brave and have good insurance? Be a human cannonball. Good with animals? Be a trainer. Funny, and not afraid of clowns? You can be a clown. Afraid of clowns and willing to face that fear? You see where I'm going. If you want to join a circus, we can pretty much find a role that can suit your talents and interests."

"Since the first week of any class is usually introduction-based, let's stick with that tradition. Tell everyone your name, what your best talent is, and what you think you could do in a circus. And remember, there's always the sideshow if your best talent is something that's just kind of weird. They're wonderful people and crowds love them."

Dick paused for a second. "But keep it clean. Circuses are family entertainment."

Cara wasn't so much listening as eyeing Dick's hair dubiously, and not bothering to pretend she wasn't.

Okay, whose idea had this class been, Bruce's or Barbara's? Either way, Stephanie realized (and this was before she listened to any introductions or figured out who else was in the class with her) it was going to be really, really.

Uh. She'd gotten the Batfamily orientation.

Ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap.

Useful? Yes. That -- this class would be -- yes.

While she listened, Annie guaranteed herself that she was never going to use anything she learned in this class in real life, but at least she wasn't running from zombies, so she wouldn't complain.

With the exception of the childcare class, Sam decided that whomever set up her classes was awesome. She got cotton candy and encouragement to follow her talents!
