Surf's Up, Wednesday, Period 3

When the students entered the Danger Shop, they'd find themselves surrounded by a white sandy beach and a calm surf. There were surfboards of varying sizes propped up in the front of the room, where Summer happened to be standing.

"Welcome to Surf's Up," she began, once everyone had arrived. "I'm your teacher, Summer Pitt. You can call me Summer or Miss Pitt, if you prefer. I'm good with either one," she added, smiling.

"Since today's the first class, I thought we could start with introductions and what experience, if any, you've had with surfing. Then we'll pair you up with the right size board in preparation for next week's class and hit the water. If there's anything you'd like to know about the sport, feel free to ask me. We're here to learn how to surf, a little bit about the history of the sport and most of all, to have fun. It is summer, after all."

A brief one, at that.

"I'd like for you all to tell me your name, where you're from and what experience you've had with surfing."

Feel free to pose any questions to Summer here.

Find a ~~handwaved~~ board for next week's class and just have some fun in the water, or on the beach if you prefer not to get in the water this week.

She's there, both before and after class if you need her.

This amuses me.

Percy Jackson

"I'm Percy Jackson from New York," he said, nodding. "And unless I wanna go surfing over taxi cabs, I couldn't really learn there so I've got...some experience but I'm really good in the water so I'm pretty sure I can pick it up easily."

Poseidon had to have some bearing on that, right? Percy hoped his dad wouldn't let him look like a total fool.

Luke Castellan

Percy wasn't going to wait to get into the water. He found a board that was good for someone ~~as short as he was~~ his height and hit the water, mostly working on staying on the board and paddling.

"I'm Luke Castellan and I'm from Connecticut," Luke said, finding it odd that he had been talking about where he was from in both of his classes today. "I don't have any experience with surfing but I haven't met a sport that I'm not good at."

Thanks, dad.

Luke was much more apt to get in the water while in the Danger Shop where everything was controlled. He picked a board that looked right for someone as tall as he was and got out into the water.

He seemed to be working more on getting a tan from the fake sun than actual surfing. The board was nice for laying out on.

Jeremy Darling

William Murdoch

"I'm Jeremy Darling, from New York City, and therefore my experience is pretty much what... that guy --" Sorry, Percy, Jeremy was forgetful. "-- said. Grew up in the city, tried my hand at surfing a couple of times at our summer houses but that's really it."

Also he'd sucked at it, the times he'd tried, but there was really no need to say that.

"William Murdoch, from Montreal," William introduced himself. "And this is the first I've heard of it, to be quite honest." He didn't know how he'd ended up in the workshops he'd been assigned this summer, but he was determined to make the best of it. At least this one wouldn't involve trying to be crude?

Kate Daniels

"Kate Daniels," she told them. "And I'm from Atlanta. Not really a surfing capital, but I've traveled a bit and like to swim when I can." Voron even used to plot their routes by lakes and coastlines, just so she got the chance. She could get into this living on an island thing.

Kate didn't shy away from the chance to get into the water, and if she needed to pick a board to do it, that's what she'd do.

Seemed like Greg had kept her preferences in mind when he picked classes. This wasn't so bad at all.

Lion-o

"I'm Lion-o, from a planet that didn't really have large bodies of water," he said, looking a bit embarrassed. "So I don't have any experience surfing, but I really like to swim and thought that this was another activity that I'd enjoy."

Nico di Angelo

Jason Todd

"Hey guys, I'm Nico di Angelo and I guess you'd say I'm from the Underworld. Or maybe New York. It depends on what you mean with from. As far as surfing goes, I've never tried it, but the whole thing sounds pretty awesome." Even if he was likely to nearly drown.

Keeping on Percy's good side was going to be a necessity this term.

"I'm Jason Todd, I'm from Gotham, and I don't have any experience surfing. But I'm a fast learner, so I'm looking forward to it." Also, he was pretty sure Bruce liked Ms. Pitt despite not having met her, since he kept signing Jason up for her classes.

Jason picked a board that was good for his ~~short oh god~~ height, and spent his time trying to keep his balance on it while laying down.

Richie Ryan

"Richie Ryan," Richie said. "From Seacouver. I don't have any real experience surfing. I've watched it but that probably doesn't count."

Cara

"Cara, the Midlands, none."

Someone hadn't really paid attention when signing up for classes.

Jack McCallister

"Jack McCallister from Hart, Missouri. It's a long way from the ocean so my experience is non-existent."
