Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Welcome to fandom, kiddos. Try not to trip over left over sombreros from Thursday!

[Please wait for OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"Time travel?" Reed said, suddenly looking far more interested in the island as a whole. "Actually, there are some fascinating studies on the possibilities. But to see it in action on such a large scale level..."

"...is yet another thing that makes this island so utterly captivating!" Jane beamed, proud to just be a part of it. "I read in the records that one summer, it took to traveling all over the world. I wasn't sure I believed it until just now, but it partially makes me wonder if it is some sort of attempt to best itself this time around. I've pondered a few theories that the island itself is somewhat sentient. There is an odd sort of...awareness to it, and some of the strange occurrences."

"They even have records?" Oh god, Jane. What did you do? "I do have this theory about how people come to ascribe sentience to random events in an attempt to put them in a perspective they can understand. When the odds are actually too random when you really examine them. Statistics could probably clear that right up here."

Wait, when did there get to be more deer?

"Ooooh!"

Now what have you done, Reed Richards?

"Why, I'd have never thought of it that way!" Jane admitted. "But what a fascinating concept. Why, it does make perfect sense. Humans tend to ascribe certain traits to many things in an effort to make them more familiar, and you do sometimes seem such other traits in the wild, as well. You hear it all the time, children left in the wilderness, and wolves and apes and the like. We've actually got our own little girl raised by wolves at the school! But one must wonder: is it completely in our heads, or is there still some truth in this sort of adaptation of certain traits to fit into our perceived notions of things?"

Oh god, they were going to be besties.

"I'd love to take a look at those records to check," Reed added cheerfully.

"They keep many of them in the library," Jane offered helpfully; that was what she was here for, after all, wasn't it? "And a few at the Trooper Station, and Mr. Ralph is quite accommodating in that respect."

If by accommodating, you meant that he just dropped off a giant box of completely unorganized documents at your feet, of course. Jane would take it, though.

"I will have to check it out." A beat. "Where exactly is the library? On campus or...?"

"Right inside the school," Jane offered, with a little bit of a nod, followed by somewhat meticulous directions that included details about imperfections in the hallway.

"But, really, you can hardly miss it. Perhaps I shall have to show you sometime?"

"That would be wonderful," Reed replied. "I'm sure it would be helpful to have someone who has already looked over them."

And family. FAMILY WAS IMPORTANT.

"Well, then, it is decided," said Jane, beaming quite happily, because the only thing that would be more exciting than a little appointment to pour over the records of the island with the very dashing and attractive, scientific and handsome new teacher would be finding the missing link or being able to witness the mating habits of the elusive apes first hand. "After you get yourself all settled into your office and your living quarters, we shall hit the books and have a look, and you can see more of what I'm talking about."
