The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

"I've done it before," Richie said. "Sometimes it's fine. Sometimes it sucks. But I'll give you as much privacy as we can work out. I'm kind of a fan of it myself. Not that I've always had it."

"My mom is kind of nosy," Freddie explained. "But we should be able to work something out. I'm a big fan of being considerate and compromising. So I don't think we'll have any problems at all."

"Ah." Richie nodded. Nosy parents he understood. "Gotcha. I think we'll be okay. So you're new too, right? Since you've never done the roommate thing before and all?"

"Flew in from Seattle overnight," Freddie said. "Just me, a suitcase, and my PearPad. Well, and a friend from Seattle, she's new too."

"I'm from Seacouver," Richie said. Just like Seattle if it were somehow merged with Vancouver.. "Uh, PearPad? Should I know what that is?" Richie hadn't yet caught on that it was not the early 90s here. He also hadn't caught on to alternate universes.

"Depends on how up you are on modern handheld computers," Freddie said. "I'd be happy to show it to you, you can get a feel for it. It's a total game changer."

"Like, laptops? Kinda heavy to be called handheld, aren't they?" Poor technologically deprived boy. "I'm gonna guess I'm not up on modern handheld computers. At all."

"Smaller, lighter," Freddie said. "If you haven't seen one, you're going to be blown away."

He grinned. "I'm kind of a geek for this stuff. I was in the AV club back home."

"I'm kinda not," Richie said. "But maybe that's lack of opportunity." And lack of people to buy you gadgets to geek out over. "And I'm not really a club kinda guy. Not a joiner, I think is what the teachers always said."
