Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Welcome to fandom, kiddos. Try not to trip over left over sombreros from Thursday!

"No, but he used the word 'yo' a lot," Surreal supplied helpfully. "They let him teach?"

This school might not be so bad after all!

Raven nodded. "I have only had the one class with him, but I know he has taught others," she said. "I am not as familiar with him as other teachers, but all of them have been very helpful to me here."

"What do they teach here? I was given a list of things to learn; languages, histories, literature, but this is like no Territory I've ever seen." If Surreal's eyes lingered a little long on Raven's not-a-Jewel, or over the clothes of the people nearby, she tried not to be too horribly obvious.

Territory? That made the name finally click for Raven; she blamed being preoccupied with her own personal woe. "Are you from Kaeleer?" she asked. She was going to have to have a talk with Karla about if she knew Surreal and how much she could tell her.

"But to answer your question, the classes are very unique and often strange," Raven said. "One of my favorites was Ethics. Professor Skywalker is the best teacher in the school."

Look, she had to get an early start on the fangirling, okay?

"I already told that Sister, I'm a little old for nursemaid stories," Surreal replied wryly. Of course she'd gone for food first and like Karla hadn't sniffed her out immediately. "Terreille, of course. No place in particular."

"Sister?" Raven said. "Karla, or Cassidy? Both of them are dear to me, but Karla is as a true sister." She stopped herself before she mentioned being Karla's Healer in her future court, not sure how much she should say if Surreal had never heard of Kaeleer. And mentioning Saetan and SaDiablo Hall was probably right out.

The name Terreille filled her with dread, though. She remembered Briarwood far too well.

"I am certain you will meet her soon," Raven said. "And there is Shira as well, though I do not know her well."

She wanted to ask Surreal more questions about her home, but consulting Karla first might be wise. "I am not from this world, either," she said instead. "I first came here two years ago, but I have learned a great deal from my fellow students and the teachers. And I will be happy to aid you in any way that I can. Do you have any questions yet?"

So there were three witches, one of whom Surreal had already met and was a nosy little thing. And of course they'd assigned someone who was friends with Karla to be her Sister.

"No, I will be fine," she replied. "It's not as if this is a large city or Territory to get lost in."

"There are dangers, however," Raven said. "The island is often invaded, though fortunately we have always managed to drive them back." Oh, she had a long list of things to tell Surreal.

"There are gremlins as well, which are generally not dangerous, though their bite contains a venom that may make you act out of character," she went on. "And there are times when the students and people of the town are transformed into children, or their older selves, or another gender."
