Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Welcome to fandom, kiddos. Try not to trip over left over sombreros from Thursday!

"I am. Would you be Surreal?" There was a certain irony to the strange name issue, since in Terran Standard as well as English, that was exactly what Surreal's name meant; also exactly how Cally pronounced it, which she hoped was correct.

"I am," she acknowledged, inclining her head slightly. "We have rooms, here? We don't have to rent our own?"

Cally shook her head. "The teachers do, but the school provides a dormitory for students." She smiled a bit apologetically, since it seemed Surreal wasn't used to that environment. "It does mean that most of us have to share, though, I'm afraid."

"As long as I don't have to share a room with any males, I'll be fine," Surreal assured her hurriedly. "How many girls to a room?"

Cally didn't spend much time blinking about the first statement, since she'd seen plenty of students thrown by the fact that some of the room assignments were co-ed. The second, though... "Oh, just you and I! And Nana, but if you're bothered by dogs, I believe they've a place set up in the stables where I can ... try to get her to stay."

Try being the operative word.

Surreal grinned broadly. "I like dogs," she said. "So long as she doesn't try to sleep on my pillow."

Cally tried to picture that, and had an issue or two. "I don't think she would fit on your pillow." She held her hand up to Saint Bernard height at her hip. "But she tends to sleep either where she's most likely to be tripped over, or on something of mine. Preferably something I'll need first thing in the morning."
