Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Welcome to fandom, kiddos. Try not to trip over left over sombreros from Thursday!

"Sam, right?" Steve asked when he tracked Sam down. "You went to school here, didn't you?"

Sam smiled and nodded, pleased in a very dorky way at not having been forgotten. "Yeah, I just finished up my first year at college. That's about as long as I could bear to stay away, I guess."

"Well, they've assigned me to be your teaching buddy," Steve told him. "I know you know your way around already, but it's really different when you're a teacher, so. I'm here to help."

"Thanks, I appreciate that. I think the weirdest thing is going to be teaching people I went to school with, and the hardest is going to be trying not to scare the new people," Sam said with a laugh. "But I'm really excited about it nonetheless."

"Yes, I think it would be important to set boundaries," Steve agreed thoughtfully. "As for not scaring the new people...I'm not sure that's possible. Sometimes it's hard to tell what will startle them; it's different for everyone."

"Yeah, and you can only sugarcoat 'Sometimes we get invaded by people who want to destroy us' so much," Sam said. "And you never know who's going to be okay with that, and not be okay with waking up as a little kid."

"It's very tricky," Steve agreed. "You learn to find the middle ground after a while."

"Well, if I find myself not getting any closer to the middle ground, I'll let you know," Sam said. It was silly how grown-up he felt right now, but he was just going to let himself enjoy the feeling.
