The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

"Yeah, hospitals aren't known for being exciting places, but I'm glad you were at one that could make you better, and accessorize you to boot," Sam said, nodding at the cane. "How long do you have to use that? Or are you just carrying it around because it looks cool?"

"I'm not sure yet. A couple months a least, might be longer," he said, deciding not to mention that it might be permanent. "I never realized how much of a pain in the ass canes were. Totally takes away from how cool I look."

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, I think you look totally cool. Of course, part of that might be the relief of you being okay. Could you try going a few months without having your life threatened?" Sam asked.

"Well, maybe things will quiet down while you're around me and Grace and Zoe." Oh yes, he'd been informed of that little arrangement. "We've still got the safest house on the island, I think."

"It was nice of Zoe to offer me a room for a while," Chuck said. "You excited about being housemates?"

"I'm looking forward to discovering the myriad ways you're going to try to drive me crazy over the next few months," Sam said. "As long as you don't try anything with Zoe, I think it'll be a good arrangement."
