Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Welcome to fandom, kiddos. Try not to trip over left over sombreros from Thursday!

Angelica took note of her room number and roommate's name. "Elphaba" was an interesting name. She had to wonder where this girl was from, and she hoped she was nice.

Elphaba was perfectly nice. Most of the time.

She still hadn't any proper summer dresses, so she was in a long navy dress with a high collar, along with her glasses. Her nametag proudly declared that she was Elphaba Thropp, though she was about to declare that herself.

"Are you the Angelica I'm looking for?" she said. "I'm Elphaba."

Angelica was glad Faramir had told her about Elphaba's unusual skin color, if only so she didn't gape at her. "Hi! Yes!" she said. "I'm Angelica Jones."

"Excellent," Elphaba said. "There's plenty of space in the room. It's been rather empty since Zatanna left, if I'm honest. It will be good to share it again."

"Have you been going here long?" Angelica asked. Mutants and people with green skin, it was almost like still being at the Academy.

"Since the fall," Elphaba said. "It's a very good school. Very accepting. It's probably the best place I've ever been."

"Oh, good," Angelica said, relieved once again to have her fears denied. "I liked the my last school, but the one before that wasn't very nice."

"This is the only school I've attended," Elphaba admitted. "But I can say my experiences here are better than back in Munchkinland. The students here are very accepting."

"Munchkinland?" Angelica repeated. "Where's that? In Europe?"

Elphaba shook her head. "It's in Oz, and not the one that is Australia. I'm from a different world entirely, actually."

"Another planet?" Angelica said. Well, that could explain the green skin. "Wow, that's cool. How did you end up coming to Fandom from there?"

"As far as I can tell, magic," Elphaba explained. "A portal which whisked me from Oz to Earth."

"Portal? Like a magic door, or something like that?" Angelica said.

Elphaba nodded. "It opened in front of the carriage," she explained. "The same thing happened when my sister came to visit. Though I have yet to try and return myself, though she was able to just fine. It was quite the experience. Magic is something that is one of my chief interests, really."

"I don't really know anything about magic," Angelica said. "There are people in my world with powers, but it's not the same, I guess."

"There are many here like that, as well," Elphaba said. "You should fit in just fine."

She smiled. "Do you need help taking your things to the room?"

"That'd be great, thanks," Angelica said. "I think they just piled up all our bags in the lobby or something, since we didn't know our rooms yet. I don't have a lot of stuff." Clothes, some books, a few stuffed animals.

"That's perfectly fine, I don't have as much as many of the other students myself. It just means we'll have more space to enjoy in the room," she said, smiling. "But before then, I think you should enjoy the picnic. They're a great chance to meet new students."

"It has been so far," Angelica agreed, smiling right back. She liked her roommate so far; her unusual skin color didn't bother her. Catseye had always been nice to her, after all, and half the time she was purple and furry.
