Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Seifer's brain couldn't be broken anymore. It just wasn't possible.

Or so he thought.

"So, I get you for an instructor?"

"There some kinda problem with that, Slick?"

Reno was totally not bothered by that sort of greeting. Hell, he still didn't think he was fit to teach around here, but the administration hadn't chased him off just yet, either.

"Do you teach better than you drive?"

Not that he'd been all that bothered by it, he'd flown with Selphie before.

"An' I fly better'n I teach," Reno laughed, shrugging. "Hey, you all got here in one piece, pal. There ain't no need to start whinin' about it, yo."

It had been a fun trip, if you asked Reno. He was a bit of a speed demon.

"Yeah, it was a trip. At least you didn't yell out for us to hold on while you tried some barrel rolls."

That would have been interesting. "I'm Seifer Almasy, I'll be in your class," Seifer said, holding out his hand.

... Barrel rolls would have been awesome. If Reno ever got the keys to the bus again...

"Charmed, yo." Reno smirked and clasped Seifer's hand, giving it a firm shake. "Reno, but I guess you figured that out by now. What brings you to a place like this, Almasy?"

Seifer would deny any responsibility for planting that seed.

"The administration at my old school thought this place would be a better fit for me."

In other words, people were less likely to try and kill him. Trying to destroy the world gives people such a bad opinion of you.

"Ah," Reno noted, as if he actually knew more or less what codespeak like that one stood for. "That thing they do when they don't wanna outright say you been expelled, but they want you outta their hair, too?"

Really, Seifer. Even if Reno wasn't a Turk, he knew that type very well. He was just that sort of guy, himself.

"A year ago, that would have been true. Now it's more like 'your safety is in question and no, going to live on an abandoned continent is not a good idea' sort of thing."

They were probably tired of having to replace everything in his room every few weeks too.

"What, you're in some kinda trouble, then?"

Please, forgive Reno's nosiness. Snooping is kind of part of what he does.

"Only in the sense that a good portion of my world would like to see me dead or in prison for shit I had no control over. No big deal."

Yep, no big. Which is why he was here.

Nah, no big at all. Reno's eyebrow quirked a little at that, his lips pursing thoughtfully for a moment before he picked up a potato chip from his plate and shoved into his mouth.

"Better shit you had no control over than shit you did an' gotta live with," he offered.

Trust him on that one, Seifer. He knew how that went.

Seifer grinned. "On the upside, my being here is going to drive Squall insane. He might actually complete several sentences to voice his displeasure over it."

Oh, Reno liked this guy already.

"Whatever-Boy? You're a buddy of his, huh?" Well, that was just precious. "Had him in my class last semester, yo. Never shut up, that guy."

'Never shut up' in much the same way that Rude never shut up, of course. Sometimes, Reno lived in special-land.

"I like that name. Usually I just call him Puberty Boy or Ice Princess."

Good going, Reno!

"He's a stunning conversationalist." In his head.

"Puberty boy!" Reno couldn't help but throw back his head and laugh at that one. "Damn, that's precious. An' you can mix-and-match them ones, too. Puberty Princess has a nice kinda ring to it, yo."

Poor, poor Squall. He was pretty much completely doomed now, wasn't he?

Very doomed. "Hey, gotta keep our rivals on their toes."

"Damn right, yo." Reno gave a wistful little sigh. "Man, I hope someone back home's pickin' on Chocobo Hair right now. They get comfortable if people let up on 'em, you know. Real sad."

"...dude." Seifer shook his head. "Like, bright yellow hair sticking up straight and defying gravity? 'cause I got one of those back home, Chicken Wuss. He's fun to piss off."

Until Zell kicked your ass.

Yeah, Cloud was pretty much the same way.

"Whiny as hell, too?" Reno smirked a little. "Chocobo Hair's didn't just stick up straight, it was in all friggin' directions. Gods, guy could'a put somebody's eye out with that shit, yo."

And Reno would have laughed. Because he was a great guy, that Reno.

"Chicken's got this hair, just the section in front, that sticks up like, a foot and a half. It's insane. I swear, he must be using Shiva to freeze it that way or something."

Seifer would laugh too, because the trauma, to Zell at least, would be hilarious.

"Well, you gotta admit, usin' Shiva to do it wouldn't be all that bad."

Seifer had eyes, right? Had he ever seen Shiva? Mrowr.

"True, but I'd be kinda worried about her getting pissed one day and freezing a few other things while she was at it."

Because, she sort of seemed like the type.

Snort.

"Okay, so the plan ain't foolproof, either. Maybe that explains more'n just their hair about 'em, too, yo."

Seifer nearly hurt himself laughing. "And here I thought the girls were avoiding him because he reminded them too much of a hyper-active puppy about to piss on their favorite shoes."
