Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was nice, the school wasn't currently under attack from forces not of this universe and they were still in Iceland. Oh yeah, it was day one of the rest of the newbies' lives.

Welcome to fandom, kiddos. Try not to trip over left over sombreros from Thursday!

And with Leo gone, of course Ramona had gotten a new roommate. Nooo, of course she hadn't just gotten to keep the room. But at least she hadn't minded Leo's company, and with any luck, this Simon kid wouldn't be, like, the worst person ever to live with.

Well, Simon looked very neat. Hopefully that wouldn't put her off too much.

Meanwhile, he was feeling a bit awkward about the girl roommate thing. He'd never even had a roommate, and could only hope this Ramona girl was nice, at least. He looked pretty lost for a moment before he spotted the right nametag and came closer, one hand brushing his hair into order just for something to do. "Are you Ramona?"

"Got it in one," she said, looking him over carefully. "And you're Simon."

He did look neat. He also looked like he was possibly terrified of her. Or everything. Poor nervous kid.

Not that she was going to do much to set him at ease, but at least she smiled faintly. "Welcome."

"Thanks." He was at a loss for words for a moment after that. This was who he'd be living with now; he didn't want to make any missteps two minutes in. "I don't snore."

...Helpful. But it was either that or pointing out she probably wasn't a new student.

Ramona's smile widened for half a second. "Me neither," she assured him. "And I'm pretty tidy, too. Plus I had a guy for my last roommate, so I'm pretty good at that whole changing-in-the-bathroom thing, too, so don't worry about that."

He just sort of looked like he might.

He wasn't the type to flail over that, but awkward and uncomfortable? Yes.

"Oh. Good." He nodded. "Me too," he assured her. "And I didn't bring too many things."

"There's a whole side of the room for you, Simon," she assured him. "You can add as many things to it as you want. Is this your first time overseas?"

That was downright loquacious for Ramona, and she'd asked him a question. She was doing fine.

"Yes," Simon replied, nodding again. "I've never been this far from home."

Except, if they were in Iceland, he really wasn't as far from home as he was supposed to be. But he was still trying to come to terms with that.

"English?" she guessed. "We have a couple of English kids running around. And one Irish one, plus a bajillion from places I'd never heard of before here."

"From London," he confirmed. "The broschure said it's an international school." They really should change that to interdimensional, or something. "What-- what other places had you never heard of?"

Ramona frowned in thought. "Well -- okay. This one, I had heard of, but there's a chick here who claims she's from Oz. Like, as in 'The Wizard of.'"

Simon's eyebrows bounced. "That's impossible."

He probably wouldn't say that to Elphaba's face.

"That's what I said," Ramona agreed. "But yeah, no, girl with green skin who claims she's from Munchkinland and wants to be a witch." She quirked a little smile, and added, "Says the water thing doesn't work, though. I was curious."

Simon managed a quietly amused little smile at that. Even if he was still doubting the whole concept. "At least you didn't try it."

"Would've been messy, if it'd worked," Ramona agreed with a little snort. "And hard to explain to the principal."

"The administration probably doesn't take well to killing other students." Not that he had any experience with anything of the sort. He wasn't thinking about it now. "How is the school like, otherwise?"

"Really, really weird," she said honestly. "But also a lot like a normal high school. The best part is the classes, really. Only happen a couple times a week."

Simon raised his eyebrows a bit. Well, he guessed that left him more time to train on his own. "What are the classes like?"

"Eclectic," Ramona said after a short pause to pick the right word. "It depends on the teacher. I've had classes where I've had to run obstacle courses, and I've had ones where I've just discussed stuff."

And then there had been the one that her twenty-three year-old ex-boyfriend had taught, but she didn't want to get into that.

It sounded about right from the broschure Simon had, really. Obstacle courses sounded useful, for one.

He nodded with another hint of a smile, having thought on that. "I think this will be fine," he decided. Or he hoped so, at least.
