Science is Awesome!!!, FINAL!!!, Period 3, April 19!!!!!!!!!!

Rikku was bouncing. Not that that was such an unusual thing for Rikku to be doing, but she was.

"Okay!" she announced, once everyone had arrived. "I got to write you guys a final!!! Isn't that awesome? I've never written a final before but don't worry it's not hard or anything I hope and you can use your notes!!! I hope you took notes 'cause otherwise you might be in a bit of trouble but don't worry I don't think it's too hard, anyway. Just write a lot and you'll probably get partial credit so long as you manage something that's right, you know? I believe in all of you and you've been supergreat, so let's get this rocking!"

Just think. This was what she was like without huge quantities of sugar. Scary, no?

Hank was very quickly, before the test started, looking over any papers that the people next to him pulled out and trying to scribble down notes from their notes.

He didn't know they were going to be TESTED on this!!!

Momoko had notes! Not many, and not always very to the point, but she was going over them anyway.

What is the scientific method??? Explain how you would set up an experiment and what important things you'd need to have. (HINT! Your answer should use words like 'variable' and 'hypothesis'!!!!)

The scientific method is when you set up an experiment to test a hypothesis and then test the hypothesis with the experiment. And variables. You need to set up the experiment so that when you do it it tests the hypothesis.

Hank was chewing on his pencil nervously and thinking hard.

And the SUPER scientific method is when you build something that twists the laws of nature in ways that weren't meant to happen, and then it explodes, and then you ask the government for more grant money.

Oh! Momoko knew this one!

The Scientific Method is the way you test things to make sure that they are right. You have to have a hypothesis to start and then you can create an experiment to test it. The experiment will either prove your hypothesis or not. If it does, you have a theory!

She couldn't remember where 'variable' fit, but hopefully that wasn't required.

Tell me what these sciences are the study of!!!

B. Botany!!! (HINT! We went to some really pretty botanical gardens, remember????)

... physics was hard. she knew what it was, but not how to explain it!

D. ... uh oh. Momoko didn't remember this class. She dropped her head to the desk, trying to remember what the word meant. "Geo... geo..."

D. Geology is the study of how land moves and grows

She bit her pen and frowned. Those last two totally didn't sound right, but it was as good as she was going to get and she could only hope that she did well on the other questions. Next!

Why can we only predict the weather a week or two in advance??? What would we need in order to predict it way way further than that????

We can't predict the weather very well because it's all complicated and stuff. To predict it better we'd just need a weather-controlling machine, because then it could be whatever we wanted it to be.

Weather patterns are complicated and made up of tiny variations. The best that we can do is to look at what's happened before and use that to predict what the future will be like. But even a simple daily forecast is totally just a guess and can be totally wrong if one thing changes or doesn't happen. The more into the future that you go, the greater the chances that something changes, so to get a totally correct forecast, we'd totally need to know exactly what will happen and when.

Momoko kind of had a crush on a weatherman once. She still had all his forecasts on DVDs!

What is a cell???? Why is it important in biology?????

A cell is a tiny, tiny splotchy thing that lives in your cheek. Cells are important in biology because biology is MADE of cells!

A cell is a building block for all living things! Everything alive is made of at least one cell. Which is important because Biology is the study of living things.

If two people are carriers for a disease, but neither of them have it, does that mean their kids absolutely won't have the disease??? Explain!!

No, their kids will probably catch it from them because kids get sick real easy.

If two parents are carriers but don't have the disease, there it is possible that their kids will have the disease. Each parent gives half a chance to have the disease, so if both halves are yes, the child will have it. The child could also have only one yes and the other be a no, which means that they don't have the disease, but are a carrier as well.

Chemistry teaches us about chemical reactions. What happens if you mix up an acid and a base?????

It EXPLODES!!! Or fizzes. Or makes smoke. Something cool, anyway.

Momoko bit her pen again. She couldn't remember which had been the reaction of a base and an acid.

Chemical reactions depend on the chemicals being mixed and how they are mixed. Some reactions are explosions and fire bursts and some are just balls of coloured light.

A bland answer, but it was the best she had.

Reno talked to you guys about natural resources. Tell me why it's super-important to protect the environment!!!!

Because the environment is what everything else is inside of! If you don't protect the environment, you don't protect anyone!

Because there isn't a second chance! We totally need to make sure we do our part and help keep the environment clean and recycle so that we don't destroy the planet and we can all enjoy the air and water and animals and plants and live a happy life.

She is hyper today. She has never written a final before. She is enough of a nerd that that makes her very, very happy.
