Being a Proper Sea Dog, Friday, Period 3

Class in the Danger Shop? Check.
Simulation of a pirate vessel? Check.
Captain Hook wearing a new, purple coat with an even more ridiculous captain's hat? Check and check.

"As you all are aware, I was quite the hero this past weekend," he said, unabashedly. "Of course, this would normally call for celebration but we already covered cake last week, and I hardly expect any of you to eat any cake I provide now." He laughed. "No, today we will talk about the most important skill you can have, as a pirate. Swimming. While some may fly through the air powered by happy thoughts and fairy dust, we as real, down-to-earth types must learn that the water must be treaded if we wish not to drown. So today... well, unless you absolutely, positively cannot swim, you're going to walk the plank, splash into the water, and tread the water rest of the class. It will build character, not to mention muscles. And no, you may not change into your swimming clothes first. If you were to actually walk a plank, as I'm sure some of you would in a just and good world, you would not be given that option."

He gestured over to a series of buckets of paint and brushes.

"For those of you who cannot swim, instead you will get to enjoy manual labor of repainting all surfaces of the ship a nice royal purple. And please refrain from throwing the virtual paint at one another. If you find yourself struggling during the water treading, just cry out and I'll throw you a life preserver and have you hauled back onto the deck. A prize for whoever lasts the longest, eh? Now get to it, get to it, that's good boys and girls..."

And so the class began.

[ooc: OCD up and ready for play!]

Well Luke knew this day was coming since the first day of class but he wasn't about to spend time worrying about it. It was just a classroom, after all. No way he could end up back in Rapture with the psychos.

So he'd just get this done and move on. No need to be a whiny bitch about it.

Re: Walk the Plank // Swim

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
There was a bit of hesitation when it came to actually walking the plank but Luke wasn't about to show he was nervous in front of other people. So he went ahead and walked off the plank with little fanfare after that bit of hesitation, and was pleased to find it wasn't all that bad. Still, a long fall like that was not something he wanted to do again.

He would be in for some painful disappointment in the future. Stupid Thalia.

After that was over and done with he had little problem with treading water for a long period of time. He was just glad his powers meant that he didn't have to walk back to his room in wet clothes. He bet that would cause some chafing.

Nico positioned himself near Luke during the lecture, but he wasn't going to say anything. He'd just stand there and try to provide a silent reminder that there were people in the room who hated the water just as much.

Maybe it was weird to think a prayer to Percy's dad while he was in the room, but shh, Nico was trying here.

Re: Talk Amongst Yourselves

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
Swimming didn't bother Percy at all but he knew there were some people that didn't like it so he tried to keep a lid on his excitement while shooting furtive glances at the people in question.

[identity profile] seaweed-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Percy got on the plank and stood there for a few seconds before walking straight off the edge. When he hit the water, he was still dry due to his powers but he made himself get wet just because sometimes it wasn't so bad.

After that, he just swam around and enjoyed being in the water when it wasn't pelting him in the face and eyes.

Somehow Luke didn't think prayers would help considering his position with the gods so he wasn't doing that, but he was trying to psych himself up about the whole thing.

"It's not gonna be that bad," he said to Nico, though he didn't sound as confident as he usually did. "I mean, we're in a classroom, right? This is all fake."

Once you jumped cliffs, walking a plank was peanuts. And honestly, Jake could probably do with some cooling off. Possibly in both the literal and the symbolic meaning.

He didn't so much as walk as he ran down the plank and jumped in the water. Werewolf stamina was a many splendoured thing.

Claudia told herself that it was just like a really old school diving board.

Of course, she'd always been nervous about diving boards, too.

Finally, she just shut screwed her eyes shut, took a deep breath, and walked off the edge. She let herself float underwater for a few moments, then swam to the surface.

She would have to be wearing several layers today, wouldn't she?

What is wrong with me? Jake is not in this class... And now I find it too hilarious to delete. Have a random student?

*dies of embarrassment*

Enjoy!

*facepalms a lot*

Can't stop laughing. I don't know what my brain did there, and he was so happy to jump off the plank too. *dies a little*

"Right, the fake classroom won't let anything bad happen." Not that Nico was all that trusting when it came to gods and things they wanted. Hurm. "It just makes up these scenarios for fun."

Re: Talk Amongst Yourselves

"Most people do find swimming fun." Then again, most people weren't in their respective situations. "At least with Percy in here nothing can go too wrong. Unless he gets pissed at us, I mean."

Re: Talk Amongst Yourselves

"Just be really, really nice," Nico suggested. "Maybe promise him something dirty right before it's your turn." Full of ideas, this one.

Re: Talk Amongst Yourselves

[identity profile] trickydemigod.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke turned and made a face at Nico. "You are so gross."

Not that suggestion itself was bad, it was just weird considering who suggested it.

"Hey, I'm being helpful!" Nico argued. "I didn't tell you to tell me what you told him. That would be gross."

Hank dropped off the end of the plank, but instead of hitting the water, he twisted around and grabbed the end of the board. "CHECK ME OUT!!! I'm a monkey!!!"

Re: Walk the Plank // Swim

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla had been taught to swim when she was quite small. It didn't mean that swimming in multiple layers of skirts and her favourite shoes was her idea of a brilliant way to spend time.

She shot a little glare Hook-ward as she jumped as daintily as possible (it wouldn't do at all to have her dress flair up and give the boys a look at her petticoats) and hit the water with a splash.

Well, Jake wasn't going to not answer a teacher. Especially one who looked like a pirate.

"Nope!"

That was helpful.

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"To walk the plank?" Jake tried, because that made as much sense as his being here did. Thank you, player.

Jason didn't have a problem with water, like some people, but he also hadn't spent a ton of time in his life swimming. He jumped into the water without any fear, but he probably wasn't going to be the last one out there.

Re: Walk the Plank // Swim

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Who? I don't think I know him," Jake shrugged up at Hook.

Re: Walk the Plank // Swim

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope. I do know a Peter," Jake supplied. "I'm Jacob Black. The plank's cool. It's more fun diving from a cliff, but it's got flair with the whole pirate style you've got going here."

Re: Walk the Plank // Swim

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like cake," Jake replied, because that was kind of a cool threat. And Hook would have a hard time trying to get Jake to eat himself sick. "But sure sure. No cashing."
