Paranormal Activity; April 12th

"Hope you haven't had lunch yet today 'cause today we're covering Wendigos," Alaric said, starting the class off on a high note, as always.

"Wendigos are typically found in the mythology of the Algonquian people. They are a malevolent, cannibalistic spirit that a human can either transform into or be possessed by. When they do possess a person their favorite hobby is killing and eating other people. They are usually associated with the winter, the North and risk of starvation. Makes sense as being stuck out in the cold with no food might drive someone to cannibalism," Alaric said. "Wendigos are typically described as looking extremely emaciated and smell like decomposing flesh. Lovely."

"Humans that are excessively greedy or gluttonous are the most at risk for turning into a wendigo, as are people who engage in cannibalism," he continued. "So try not to do that."

"As a side note there is a legitimate psychological problem named after the creature called Wendigo psychosis," Alaric shared. "Basically it's when you have an intense craving for human flesh and you're afraid you'll resort to cannibalism."

Gross.

"So today we're gonna delve into some deep stuff and discuss whether you think it's possible for someone to get so far gone in their habits that they turn into a monster," he said. "And I mean monster in both the literal or metaphorical term."

This was certainly an...interesting lecture. For someone who had once been called a monster, trying to think of himself fulfilling the parameters of that word was far too easy and far too depressing.

He frowned and shook his head, trying to get his mind off of it.

Ugh, monster. It was one of those words Kate didn't particularly like because she couldn't quite define it anymore. Too many of her important people had been labeled with it.

Also, she still hadn't been able to get in touch with anyone back home. It all made for a somewhat uncomfortable-looking Kate.

"At this point? I'm going with anything is possible," Caroline started off. "I mean, seriously, just considering the kinds of weird-ass people here, nothing can be off the table so far as bizarre transformations. Even if I still say ew to cannibalism."

The TA was totally there and thrilled that class didn't go on and on about something she took great offense to. Caroline was giving Ric a big thumbs-up for not making her want to die this week.

After class, there was a TA standing in front of Ric. Wasn't he lucky? "So I was a coyote last week? And first, let me say how much that sucked, and second, dude, if you tell anyone from home, I will...do something really really bad!" She hoped she sounded threatening, but not too threatening.

"Um, but not like, Katherine levels of bad or Damon-bad. More like, 'Stefan's frowning, who's gonna stop him from crying' badness." Okay fine, she was lame at threats.

"You didn't know? Oh great, now I've gone and told you and I so could've gotten away without anyone possibly knowing!" Caroline said, doing her best to not totally freak out in class.

"Hey, I'll have you know I caught a baby deer! Stefan was proud, even if I feel like a total baby animal murderer." Perhaps Caroline had missed his sarcasm. "And no, I didn't get fleas. Gross, that'd be worse than VD."

"Losing a vampire to the wild of Fandom would pretty much make this little venture a failure," Caroline agreed. "I can't believe next week is already finals. Please tell me it won't be like your history final."

Like any normal student, Caroline didn't want to actually do work.

"Um, nothing?" Caroline tried. "But it was very final-y, if you know what I mean."

"I wouldn't be worried, only it seems you forgot to hand out a review packet or like, detail what we should expect the final to look like! You know, twenty multiple choice, three short answer, heaven forbid there's an essay involved!" She would probably pass out from lack of preparation there.

Caroline made a face at him, not thinking she was doing anything out of the ordinary engaging her professors in discussion of exactly how she was going to maintain her GPA. "I was considering it. But Professor Lee is kind of odd. He has this whole helmet-hair thing happening that worries me."

And that whole defenestration thing. That was off-putting.

Caroline paused to have a good look and determine he had S1 hair. "No. It's hot if you go for that whole teacher with issues thing like Jenna."
