Getting Out of Tight Situations- Period 5

Class today was being held in a normal classroom today, and Jaina was sitting on top of the desk with her legs dangling. This was in part because it made her feel taller (after a weekend of being alternately tall and normal-sized) and because despite the amount of training she did, her legs sort of ached from days of jumping on things and she didn't feel like standing.

"This weekend ended up being a little differently than I expected it would on Friday, and next week is finals week, so we're going easy on things today," Jaina explained. And no, she didn't like that next week was finals week already. "I know at least some of you were involved in what was going on this weekend, and while for the most part no one was in real danger, if you left the dorms it was sort of hard to avoid fanged mushrooms and the reason I now hate turtles. So what was your experience? Did you have any trouble out there? Anyone end up with fireballs or raccoon ears? What was the part you found the most annoying? Don't say 'kidnapped children,' that really should go without saying."

Jake would be over here keeping his mouth shut. Talking about being a chewed upon stuffed toy just didn't seem all the interesting.

"I spent all weekend hiding in the dorms," Stephanie said, hoping she'd managed to look adequately embarrassed about that. "So I missed out on all of that."

It was, of course, a complete and total lie, but one predicated on the firm belief that slapping some spirit glue on a domino mask and sticking it over your eyes would render you suddenly and totally unidentifiable to people.

What? It worked in her world, apparently.

Bruce eyed Stephanie. There was something, but he couldn't quite place it....

It was going to bug him, and he didn't even know a domino mask was to blame. Stupid DC.

And oh, boy, was Stephanie ever going to do her best to avoid eye contact with Bruce right now.

The last thing she needed was to remember the raccoon ears and start laughing hysterically.

La la la, nothing to see here, really!

She'd appreciate the not being called out on it in class. The fact that she was pretending like she hadn't been fighting through the same weird castle with her teacher yesterday (because that had been some completely different, random, mysterious blonde chick) was kind of ridiculous as it was, let's face it.

"Not really?" She shrugged. "I saw enough looking out the windows. Plenty enough excitement for me, thanks."

. . . ahahaha.

"It was bizarre. I never realized I'd take to driving a boot or flying with a raccoon tail so quickly because, well, neither one makes any sense and I'd never consider either one," Bruce said. "The most annoying part was probably having to deal with the creatures in such specific ways, and the trial and error it took to figure out what those ways were."

"Twice, both on Friday. I almost had a third incident in the pool on Saturday, but I managed to get past that," Bruce said.

"I used my locker key as a makeshift blow dart to take care of one fish, then kicked off the bottom of the pool to give me enough speed to get back to the surface and then out of the water before the other fish could get to me."

James summed his handwavy weekend up in a few words: "I hate this island sometimes."

"I handwavily tried to head to work Friday morning but quickly realized that I was safer staying in the dorms," said Harper. "I was never any good at video games."

"And if you're more likely to cause problems than help, it's better to stay out of the way to the real heroes can do their job," said Harper. Being the mortal best friend of a wizard, she was going to have to get used to staying on the sidelines of magical catastrophes.

Bruce didn't mind the ears so much. They provided wind drag to keep him from flying too fast with the tail.

Now, he did have several comments about how a raccoon tail shouldn't lead to flight....
