Fighting With Powers [Monday, Fourth Period]

"We've talked about quite a few powers, both how to use them and how to deal with them, so far this semester." Max was apparently still pretty good at stating the obvious. "And most of you have done quite well." It was possible that he was leaving it vague in order to encourage everyone to work extra hard. Or maybe he was just being vague.

"We're nearing the end of the semester, so I figured I'd give you all a chance to shape the last few classes. Today's going to be discussion for the most part. You're all going to talk about what you've learned, and what you'd like to focus on during the last few weeks. What have we not covered that you feel would be helpful, or what do you want to go over again or get into more depth on?"

Max waited a beat or two. "Well, what are you waiting for?"

Cassidy took a deep breath and gave him an unsure smile. "Sir, would you be able to teach me some more self-defense moves outside of class or suggest someone that I could contact for such. My powers will not always be at their best and I do not want to be someone that my Court always has to worry about protecting if something bad happens. I can throw things, and before he left Mr. Genesis was trying to teach me how to blend certain aspects of my powers with elemental aspects."

There was a moment or two of silence as Max considered the request. "How similar is your situation to Karla's?" he asked eventually.

"Nowhere near as dangerous that I am aware of, sir," she said as she shook her head. "But, my mother sent me here because she was told to in order for me to be safe and two people that I already know are part of my Court come from a place where it's dangerous to be a witch or a Queen." She took a breath. "I don't want to take the chance of not being prepared if there is danger that I am not aware of."

"Okay. I get that." Max nodded thoughtfully.

"Sure. I'd be glad to teach you outside of class if you wish."

Her smile was one of relief. "Thank you, sir. Just tell me what you want me to do and where."

Max snorted in amusement. "What's your schedule like. I suspect we can make time for an hour or two a week if you like."

"I have classes Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and I work in the library on Thursdays. Except for Magic Reserves on Wednesday afternoons, my schedule is free besides that."

"How do you feel about Monday afternoons, then? After classes, I mean."

"That sounds good with me, sir."

"Is next week soon enough to begin?" Max asked. It sounded like she wasn't desperate for training, so... a week should be fine.

She nodded. "Yes, sir. Next week would be fine."

"Meet me on the beach in the afternoon, then." Max rather liked training on the beach.

She nodded and then smiled. "I'll be there, and thank you very much, Professor Maximus. I really appreciate it."

"Wait until after we've had a session or two before you get too enthusiastic," Max suggested with a hint of teasing in his tone.

Cassidy gave him a smile. "I'll keep that in mind, sir."

It was hard for Cassidy not to be enthusiastic about something.

"Then I'll see you next week."

"For more than class."

She nodded and said thank you again before she continued on with her business.
