The bouncy blonde girl was missing her lanky Turk counterpart today.

"Today, we're going to discuss an important part of teamwork," Rikku said. "Which is, in a kind of backwards way, the times when you have to wing it by yourself. It happens. A team's especially strong because no one has to carry the load alone, but every now and then, you're gonna be carrying things solo just for a short little while until your teammates are back on their feet."

She shrugged and perched on the edge of the desk. "If you're in a fighting situation, maybe your teammate just got knocked out. If we're talking about schoolwork, then maybe the other half of your group presentation just got called home for a family emergency. If you're a waitress in a restaurant, one of your coworkers might have their car break down, and so you're stuck taking extra tables until they come in."

She rolled her eyes, looking amused. "Orrrrrrrrr your co-teacher could have some kind of super-death-flu that makes him puke all over the place, like, nonstop, in which case, you might have to tell Mr. Stubborn that he has to stay in bed and that you'll come up with a topic by yourself, honest."

You know. Hypothetically speaking.

"So what we're gonna do today is talk about ways of handling those little complications -- how you can cover for an absent team member without juggling too much, how to keep all those balls in the air, that kind of thing. You can come up with general strategies or even just shared times that it happened to you, and ways you dealt with it. Aaaaaaaaand then if there's time at the end of class, you guys can get into your groups again, 'cause you should be working on your charity fundraising assignment stuff, you know? You should probably pick a date and figure out how you're going to set it up and so on. So! Let's get started."

Do whatever things you usually do during a lecture.

Have you ever had to carry the team yourself (however briefly)? Why, and how did you deal with it? What things can you suggest people should or shouldn't do, in that situation? If you haven't been in the situation, feel free to speculate on things you think could help, and so forth! That's why it's a discussion, so people discuss.

"If someone gets knocked out in a fight, you just have to hold on until you can throw them a Phoenix Down," Squall answered. "A team hasn't been defeated while there's still one member left standing."

Right. Effy's input hadn't been especially valuable on this, but she had at least been paying attention to other people's suggestions in the last couple weeks.

"So, hospital toys... jumble sale?" She was okay with that. Was that all the discussion necessary? Felt like it to her.

"I still like it. Plus helping kids who are sick will totally feel good." Momoko nodded. "But it needs to be a team decision, so if someone wants something else, we should totally think about it."

And then help the kids.

Wesley... had been sort of spacing out the last couple of weeks. Sorry, guys.

"Er," he said. "What... what was it that we were planning, again?"

"I think we're still working on how to not spend our own money, and fundraise money from others," Jason said. "It makes a little more sense to me that way, at least."

"We're planning a raffle," Squall reminded them. "For Doctors Without Borders." At least, that was what he'd arbitrarily picked last week.

"A raffle should be easy enough to set up. We don't need anything fancy for that besides, like, tickets," Jason said, feeling grateful for Squall's ideas. "I guess we just need to figure out when we want to do this?"

Hopefully, neither of them are sick.

No, but one of them was an Arcerian kitten for awhile. And looking less than thrilled with the result.

She is hoping she hasn't caught the super-death-flu.

Momoko hoped so too, as she made her way over. "Rikku! I'm going to miss tomorrow's class and I'm totally sorry! But I've got to go home; it's a holiday and my mom isn't happy I skipped the last few."

"In that case, you're totally going to fail class and I'm going to be super mad at you," Rikku said, trying to keep a straight face.

The giggling was not helping the straight face. Like, at all.

Momoko sighed over-dramatically and placed the back of her hand on her forehead... "Ah! But then I'll totally be held back a year and not graduate! Rikku-sensei, you're so MEAN!"

raspberryturk is deep in finals-land, and I totally wasn't on when I was supposed to be on for class-writing because I was el sicko, so when I finally surfaced, she was needing to crash zomg because of the aforementioned finals-land and stress and whatnot, and the result is the class you see before you.
