Deep Thoughts Meeting (5:30pm FST)

Anakin, a strange doll tucked under his arm, propped the door to the music room open in preparation for the meeting of the ~~Pouting Brooders~~ Deep Thoughts Club.

He pulled a book out of his robes, flipped to a page he had marked, and wrote on the board:

He put two pieces of paper out on the desk--one for students to sign in on, another for them to help staff the club table for the fair--snagged a Twinkie out of the desk drawer, and waited for the club members (and anyone else who's feeling especially deep) to show up.

Angela cocks one eyebrow. "No way is he worse than my mom. Or my sister. Plus, he'll probably be able to cope with the weirdness here. My mom won't, and my stser will probably get a crush on Angelus or something."

She drops her head in her hands. "I'm gonna end up back in Pittsburgh, I know it."

Anakin laughed. "You might have a point there. But Obi-Wan has some truly horrifying stories from my childhood and no sense of a filter as to which ones might be appropriate to share with others. Which would be none of them, preferably. Plus there's the emasculating childhood nickname that he won't let me grow out of." He sulked. "It's going to be really, really long weekend, isn't it?"

"Extremely long," Angela says. "I think my mom wants to go into D.C., too, so there will be the thrill of looking at old stuff with a bunch of other tourists."

She gives Anakin a mischevious smile. "Do I want to know what your childhood nickname is? I'm guessing it's not Kajagoogoo."

"Blast, I hadn't even thought about that. Obi-Wan loves that culturally important crap. I don't think he knows how close all those museums are, or he'd have already sent an itinerary laying out our game plan to avoid crowds." Anakin snorted. "He's organized like that."

He looked at her and gave her a small smile. "I'll never tell the nickname. Nope. And it's not Kajagoogoo."

"Sadly, my mom knows exactly where we are, AND my sister's never been to Washington, and I haven't been since I was, like, six. So ... lots of cultural crap to partake of. And I think she already bought tickets to the Holocaust Museum. I mean, she did it for me, 'cause I used to be really into the Diary of Anne Frank, but ... fun way to spend your day, y'know?"

She shrugs. "Don't tell me if you don't want to. It's probably some obscure Jedi insult that I wouldn't understand anyhow."

Anakin looked at Angela with sympathy. "Wow. You're weekend's totally shot." He dropped his voice. "I'll tell you but you have to promise not to laugh, okay?"

Angela holds up one hand. "Scout's honor," she says, wondering if reverse psychology works on all padawan.

Anakin looked at Angela for a long moment, then blew out a breath. "Fine. My nickname was Annie. Bad where I'm from, so, so, so much worse on a world where it makes everyone think of a redheaded little girl who sings a lot."

Angela swallows a laugh. "Annie. That's, um ... better than Jayne, anyhow. And that's his real name. I promise not to ask you to sing ~~besides, I already bought "Little Bunny Foo Foo"~~."

Anakin felt the amusement rolling off of her in waves but was gratified that she didn't actually laugh. "That's true," he said, brightening. "And thank you for not asking for a song. ~~I'm never, ever, ever going to live that down, am I?~~"

"No problem ~~and no, you never will~~. So did we just, like, Deep Thought each other into acceptable moods? Because that's sort of not the point of this club." Angela props her chin on her fists. "We need to brood more."

"Yeah, that was weird." Anakin went back to staring at his boots. "Broody things. Okay. I'm totally creeped out by my religion class, the master/slave thing makes the hair on the back of my neck rise, and I'm not sure I've actually made any friends in my time here." He stuck his lower lip out. "And you?"

"Broody things? Okay." Angela matches Anakin's pout. "Also creeped out by the master/slave thing, I keep fighting with Marty but I think I'm still kind of in love with him, my roommate is pregnant and keeps coming home covered with bruises -- when she even shows up -- my friend Zero is in Locker 327, I'm barely passing Geology, and I'm fairly convinced I'm going to get killed or driven completely insane one way or the other by Christmas break. ~~And I'm trying to soul a very evil vampire in spite of my utter lack of experience or competence with magic. Because I am an idiot.~~"

"You win." Anakin said. "Screwed up feelings about exes, violence and Locker 327 beats everything I've got."

"Yay," Angela says, not sounding especially proud of the victory. "And ... if you really want a friend? I'm here. I mean, if it's okay I'm a girl, and from earth, and don't understand the whole spaceship thing." She is blushing.

Anakin also blushed. "I'll take you up on that if we survive the weekend," he replied. "And thank you," he said quietly.

"It's nothing. Call me if we get through the weekend," Angela says, before fleeing the classroom.
