Classrooms Around Campus, All Day Saturday

It was Saturday, and that meant Career Day! Unbeknownst to all the students who had taken the career placement test, Fandom had apparently conspired to place them all in workshops that didn't quite fit the answers they gave for their tests. The island was tricky that way. Not to mention that the workshops that the island had planned were somewhat different from the workshops an ordinary school might offer on Career Day. As in quite a lot different.

So the classrooms all around the school were filled with visitors from off-island and island alike, all of whom had been led to believe that they would be teaching eager-minded groups of students, excited to learn about their prospective care
ers. This assumption was not necessarily accurate.

"Of course not," Sheila shuddered. Ew. "But the OSI handles Guild relations, not the FBI. The FBI knows better than to poke their nose in where it isn't wanted."

"So you have an entirely separate, special task force devoted to taking you down-- and you feel comfortable calling them when the FBI takes you in?" Scully paused, utterly non-plussed. "They can't be doing a very good job if you're recruiting at a high school."

"The FBI would only move on a Guild target if they were trying to piss off the OSI," Dr. Girlfriend said, mildly exasperated. "The OSI and the Guild have an understanding. It's like you've never even heard of the Treaty of Tolerance."

"...."

Scully paused.

"Is this some secret conspiratorial treaty between your associates and elements in the government, those who created the OSI in order to allow everyone to keep their jobs?"

Somewhere, the Guys were so proud of Scully.

Dr. Girlfriend sighed.

"If there were a secret conspiracy between me and the government," she said, "I could hardly be surprised that you hadn't heard about it."

Scully had to admit Dr. Girlfriend had a point there. Even if the Law-Abiding FBI Agent part of her was still boggling.

"Thank you," she said, politely. Then she had to ask, "And what is your doctorate in?"

"Mechanical engineering," she said. "I wasn't always interested in this 'evil' gig. One of my professors gave me the idea."

One that she had been sleeping with, at the time. Details.

"Hunh." That was surprisingly down to earth.

Scully could've compared notes on Mentors You Sleep With, too. It never turned out well. "So you weren't much older than the students here when you got started in this Guild?"
