Classrooms Around Campus, All Day Saturday

It was Saturday, and that meant Career Day! Unbeknownst to all the students who had taken the career placement test, Fandom had apparently conspired to place them all in workshops that didn't quite fit the answers they gave for their tests. The island was tricky that way. Not to mention that the workshops that the island had planned were somewhat different from the workshops an ordinary school might offer on Career Day. As in quite a lot different.

So the classrooms all around the school were filled with visitors from off-island and island alike, all of whom had been led to believe that they would be teaching eager-minded groups of students, excited to learn about their prospective care
ers. This assumption was not necessarily accurate.

She'd had worse reactions. Far, far worse.

"Dr. Girlfriend," she said. " 'Rude' is your whole name? I would have thought it went with a noun of some kind, like 'The Rude Arsonist.'"

Sheila was assuming that Tall, Dark and Rude was a supervillain. Although 'henchman' would do.

"Just 'Rude'."

'Henchman' was probably a more accurate description. Dr. Girlfriend's universe didn't really have a parallel for 'mini-boss'.

As for her... she looked like she was alone. "Dr. Boyfriend... stood you up?"

"There's no Dr. Boyfriend, and good riddance," she grumbled. "I just haven't picked out a new name yet. Although 'Dr. Ex-Girlfriend' has a really scary kind of air to it. But it seems more revenge-based than I'm thinking of going."

She might go back to being Lady Au Pair. Except the moppets were a little hard to handle.

Single! And on the rebound! Score! "Would you like... a cough drop?"

He'd meant to say 'to have a drink with me', but that voice...

And he'd been doing so well, before that.

"This is my voice," she said. "I happen to be a heavy smoker."

Someone had once asked her if she ate cigarettes, instead of smoking them.

Rude gave a slight shrug. "Nobody's... perfect."

He happened to be a heavy drinker, after all.

"I don't have to take that from a thug in a nice suit," she replied, frostily.

"Not even if it came over... drinks?" Rude asked.

Look, he was trying to overlook the voice. Couldn't she respect that?

She ... might. He'd said the magic word. 'Drinks.'

"Later?" she asked. "Where and when?"

"Caritas," he told her. "Tonight."

He hadn't gotten the memo about the Devil's Nest being reopened, yet.
