Something absolutely tragic must have happened for Alaric to allow Caroline to teach of all things. Give feedback on formal wear? Definitely. Paint a float? Sure! Set a car on ramps to get worked on? Perhaps in desperation! But lead young people toward knowledge? Yeah, not so much a Caroline thing.

"Wow, okay! So, Ric is...somewhere obviously not here," Caroline started, smiling at her peers and hoping no one just up and left right away. "But class must go on, and I've got his emergency plans. Weirdly, they involve showing a movie, which is so below my skillset when it comes to the paranormal, right? I mean, I'm from one of the most supernatural towns in Virginia. We had old timey witch hunts and vampire dens and a whole bunch of randomly appearing werewolves! Okay, and seriously? What is up with werewolves and like, living in recreational vehicles and wearing old, dirty clothes? These guys should have just as much cash in hiding as the vampires. Living it up is totally possible over time, okay?"

Right, class. "But I digress. It's a movie day and our feature film is Battle of the Dragons, starring that super hot Jesus-wannabe Oscar winner. And some dude in an eye patch. Um, I think the paranormal aspect is dragons? Because some people must think they're real. If they are, I'm just gonna be over here, hoping never to meet one. Unless it means I get my own bearded Jesus to protect me."

And lo, she pressed play and shut her trap.

Be thrilled to have Caroline instead of Alaric. She'll curtsy if there's clapping.

Kate looked a little tired and a little worn out today, but without the moody air those two things tended to usually bring with themselves.

She quirked a brow at Caroline's babbling but that was about all the visible reaction she showed to the other girl being in charge of class. Probably a testament to how tired she really was.

Bod didn't clap for the enjoyable class presentation but he did grin up at her, making it both an encouraging and amused smile. She hadn't done bad at all. He was impressed.

It's an epic tale worthy of much talk during the show, people. A brood of fire-breathing dragons emerges from the earth and begins setting fire to everything, establishing dominance over the planet. Only Jesus-Bale can save them.

Raven wasn't exactly thrilled with the violence in the movie, but since she would be watching a horror movie for the first time the following day, she tried to give it some of her attention.

Bod wasn't really sure what to think of this movie but he watched anyway in case he could take something away from it.

Kate could have told him the best thing to take away from the movie was that the Space Battles fandom survived even on a planet ruled by dragons.

But that wasn't what she was leaning towards him for, after some hesitation one hand swiping hair away from her tired eyes. "Bod? Um, have you got a minute after class, at some point?"

She'd told him about something when it started, she figured she should keep him posted when it looked like it was coming to an end.

That voice speaking to him surprised him enough that he didn't immediately answer. It took him a second to realize it wasn't some fantasy he was having where things were all right.

"I have some time," he finally answered, nodding. "Yes. This is my only class today so yes."

He had no idea what this could be about.

And Kate wasn't about to start explaining here, though she felt a little like she should have. But it was private, and possibly emotional for her, it could wait.

She nodded. "Well, I'll probably be in my room, or I can come by yours, or...?"

"It doesn't matter to be either way," Bod explained, shaking his head. "You can come upstairs to my room if you'd like or I can stop by your room. I'm really fine with either option."

Kate nodded again. "Okay, well, I'll be in my room, then. I'll... see you later."

And then she went back to watching the movie. Or pretending to, anyway.

Okay, so it wasn't the best movie ever. So what? She was supposed to be at work, and instead she was in class, and instead of either of those things, she was watching a crappy movie. She could handle that.

Since there's no teacher, and Caroline's there and looking rather adorable as she attempts to be a leader not involved in cheering.

It's good to be TA.
