Adventures, Capers and Escapes - Danger Shop, Thursday, Period 3

"Raise your hand and give an exasperated look if you've ever been on the receiving end of unwanted amorous attention." The Doctor raised his hand, gave an exasperated look and then raised the other hand. "There is no greater escape than from the clutches of someone who thinks they're in love with you. Or lust. Sometimes they can't tell the difference. Sometimes it doesn't matter. In the spirit of yesterday, and no I don't want to talk about it, and the upcoming Valentine's Day...thing," he said, looking as if the words themselves tasted bad, "you're going to put your skills to the test."

He walked down the centre of the group to separate them. "You," he said to the group on his left once he turned around. "Are in love with them. One of them, some of them, all of them. You can work it out and surprise each other. Those to my right are not in love with these amorous sorts. Left group, start using your powers of persuasion to tell the intended target of your love how much you care about them. Keep it clean, please. I've spent enough time with Jack Harkness to have had my fill of below the belt comments. Right group, time to use your powers of persuasion to tell this lot to kindly get lost. Cara? No weapons, no touching. The same goes for the rest of you. Fifteen minutes, then switch sides so you have to deal with being annoyed and being the annoyer. Then we're going to sit here and eat because fending off the advances of unwanted attention is tiring."

There was a table full of food for everyone after the exercise. Of course, it was also a good place to retreat from the group if you'd had enough of the exercise after five minutes.

Elphaba's eyebrow attempted to to go higher after the wink.

That was actually physically impossible.

"I hope you weren't trying to treat this entirely seriously," she said, diplomatically.

Claudia snorted and shook her head. "Love is more fun when it's . . . silly."

There. That answered her question without being totally out of character.

Elphaba fought the smirk that was trying to appear on her face. "You've experienced love in many ways, then?"

No.

"Oh yes," Claudia said breathily. "I'm an experienced lover."

She almost managed to say that with a straight face.

And with that, Elphaba couldn't help but smile. "Well then, I see how you wouldn't want to bother with me, then. Such experience would be lost on me. And I certainly couldn't reciprocate."

"Ah, but the only way to get that experience is to, uh. Try."

That made sense, right?

"But surely your attentions would be better spent on other, more experienced girls," Elphaba said. "I'm only thinking of you here, I'm awfully flattered."

Hey, she could play along.

"Maybe I'm more interested in teaching."

Elphaba just shook her head. "While I'm sure I'd have a lot to learn, I don't think I'm the right pupil for you."

"Oh, don't be so sure!" She was supposed to be insistent, after all. "Don't you find me attractive?"

"I didn't say you weren't attractive," Elphaba said, honestly. "I mean, you do have pleasant features, and I find your hair very unique. But that is beside the point."

"I think we'd make a beautiful couple," Claudia said, lightly side-stepping the point. She checked the clock. Were fifteen minutes up, yet?

"I... think it's the end of you having to try and woo me," Elphaba said. "You did put up quite a good effort, though."

"Oh, good." Claudia set her chin down on her arm on her desk. "Man, that's totally irritating for the woo-er, too."
