Maia reads the assignment quickly. "Ok, um... Ok people who take photos of adults and age them down to make them look like chilren claim they are not breaking the law because the people they photograph are of age yet the images they produce are of children. While is it not illegal to do so, many places that produce images like that are considered obscene and law enforcement usually goes out of their way to find a reason to shut them down." Maia says breathlessly "Does that work as an example?"

Maia smiled at Grissom. "Oh no I think I'm good. I'll let you know though." She smiles again and pulls out her notebook funny this is the only one she can seem to find.

John comes into class with a copy of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

"Sir, I researched topics of obscenity in the media and found several sources for banned books. I picked this one because there are still attempts to censor it in today's society. The reasons people try to censor the book are because of it's depictions of rape, pregnancy, homosexuality, and profane language. This book is also celebrated for its prose and tale." John huffs out a laugh. "With this, I think parents have to ask themselves if they want their child exposed to the harsh realities of the world in favor of reading one of the best books ever written or do they want to shield their children from the reality of the world but let them lose out on a well written, still read, still relevant book."

"I picked "A Clockwork Orange" for the assignment. While most people know it in the form of a Stanley Kubrick movie, it's actually a book by Anthony Burgess. Both the book and the movie have had to deal with censorship which isn't surprising when you look at the topic. The book deals with rape and murder and very obscene topics which are visualised pretty graphically in the movie too. So it's no wonder that they both had to suffer from censorship and people trying to disregard it as obscene. I can see why people would think this book is obscene, and in a way it even is but you have to keep in mind that it is supposed to shock. It's supposed to make the reader think about violence and the loss of moral boundaries, put up a mirror in front of us and let us face the atrocities of crime. I know some people seem to think that this will lead to people trying to copy the crimes, but I don't agree with this. People with a healhty sense of morals know the difference between what is right and what is wrong."
