Apathy Whatever, Some Classthing, Friday Afterblahblahblah, What the Fuck Do You Want, Anyway?

So. George was here. Other people were here, too. That was good. Whatever.

George was here, sitting and listening to her headphones so that she could ignore everyone. That was probably going to last until a good five to ten minutes after the club meeting was supposed to start.

And then, abruptly, she pulled the headphones off and tossed them onto the desk in front of her.

"Why can't people just leave us alone?" she asked. "Maybe I don't want to talk. Maybe it's none of your business and nobody asked you, anyway. Maybe we're fine and people should just fuck off. There. You want a topic? Why people should fuck off. And how much it sucks that they don't."

Yeah. This club was a regular beacon of sunshine. Did they really expect a cheerier topic?

And if so, why were they in Apathy Club?

It was hard to glare too much today since he'd had a fun class earlier that consisted of throwing things at Rilla. He did slouch down in his seat and look appropriately moody though.

Yeah, Jono didn't do 'mingle.' And he really didn't do 'sitting by the other club members' so much, either. In fact, he'd found himself a corner that was adequately near the door, today, and he wasn't going to hesitate to make a mad-bloody-dash through said door if anyone thought for an instant that they were going to try to be friendly at him, or something.

What if that person were Squall?

"..."

How, exactly, did you have a conversation along the lines of "so, your girlfriend's been not-dead for a week, but no one seems happy about it, and I haven't talked to you since"?

Especially if you didn't give a shit about the details and the only part you cared about at all was that Jono didn't seem himself?

"...Hey."

Well, that was a start.

... Okay, for Squall, Jono would make an exception and refrain from bolting out the door. So long as Squall didn't suddenly develop a fondness for hugging, or anything ridiculous like that.

//Hey, mate,// Jono greeted. Because that was a good start when it came to fishing for a reply to a greeting like that.

Did sitting vaguely near-ish and staring at the floor count? Because that's what Squall was doing.

What should he say? "Life sucks" was too obvious, "rough week?" was trite, and most everything else would be a lie.

"Hey," he said again. It made for scintillating conversation.

//Yey,// Jono agreed. Because when in doubt, some single-syllable statements couldn't possibly steer you wrong.

Jono tilted his head a little bit, and then decided to toss a few more syllables in there, anyhow.

//Good day?//

Or, at least, a day.

"Didn't suck," Squall answered. Not too badly, anyway.

But now he had a conversation opening that he was going to dive for, to try to get Jono to open up a little.

"You?" he asked, with a shrug.

Clearly, Squall was going for the gold, there! Jono was going to have to strive to not disappoint!

//About th'same.//

That was amazing.

//Had class. That sort of thing.//

Okay, so Jono didn't want to talk. Not that Squall was all that surprised, really.

"Good."

If he did want to talk, Squall would be there to... well, no, not really. But he'd be around for moral support.

Which Jono appreciated, in that roundabout sort of way in which a person appreciated the company and moral support of somebody that could carry on a conversation via monosyllables and awkward pauses.

It was a gift.

//Indeed.//

... No, really, he did appreciate it. The fact that he hadn't fired off a paragraph of snark at Squall by this point could absolutely attest to that.

Jack wasn't feeling broody or sullen, which was a refreshing change of pace, but he managed to look aloof anyway.

Jenny was just going to sit in the back, slouch despite years of finishing school, and check her nails.

Yep. They still looked like crap.

Squall wasn't glaring, he was watching people. There was a difference.
