Paranormal Activity 101, Tuesday, February 1st
Today the class was held in a regular classroom, with no graves or shovels or anything else like that around. Just a man holding a cup of coffee, looking tired.
Which probably came as a relief after last week's hard labor.
"Okay, so, this week we're talking about djinn, which are supernatural creatures from creatures in Arab folklore and Islamic teachings. You guys might better know them as genies," Alaric started. "It is said that the djinn are created from fire and can take on any form they choose. Most of them are hostile, but some are friendly. They're just very unpredictable and certainly anyone who breaks an agreement with a djinn will strongly regret it. Often djinn take pleasure in punishing people for wronging them, even unintentionally."
"It is possible for you to gain power over a djinn and use their powers to your advantage, but only people in the know really are capable of doing that," he said. "But one popular way of trapping them is by imprisoning them in a brass bottle. When that bottle is rubbed three times the djinn inside will appear and grant that person three wishes. So you see where the genie thing is coming from."
"So, today, you're all gonna act as djinn. Well trapped djinn, not the ones that punish people and are all around jerks," Alaric said. "Partner up with someone at some point between today's class and next week's you're gonna have fulfill one wish for them. A simple wish--and nothing dirty or inappropriate! Something like making them breakfast or recording the Super Bowl for them. Something like that."
Alaric paused. "I'm repeating it again: nothing dirty. Nothing bad. That will not count for class credit."

Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
She had to, after all, for class.

Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
"If I don't do something for you then I won't get credit," she pointed out mildly, with a shake of her head. "Surely there's something I could do for you, so that we're even?"

Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
Hm. It was rare that Rosalind reconsidered something, but-- "Perhaps getting them from a friend would be better," she said, feeling a bit conflicted. "I won't pretend to know more than radio has said, but one of the classes might be uncomfortable for you to hear about from a relative stranger."
Way to be blunt, Rosalind.

Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
Well, she'd tried...
"Ghosts," Rosalind said, keeping her voice carefully even, for all that she wasn't sure saying it so out-right was a good idea. "And graves."
And grave-digging.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
"I think it will be all right," she said. "The subject matter will not disturb me."
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
"Then I'll provide notes," she said, glancing at her notebook. "I'll make copies this week and get them to you."
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
"What may I do for you then?" she asked.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
For all of that, she knew what she wanted to ask, but even her not always astute social skills thought the question of 'what did you do to Jono?' would go over well. Which left her trying to come up with another favour to ask that was on the same level as... school notes.
"I admit," she said, in a stall for time, "that I'm unused to asking for things myself."
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
Someone may have been overcompensating just a tiny bit, even more so than usual.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
Rosalind tried not to look as baffled as she felt at Raven's words. Really, that sort of temperament… wasn't common on Gaia.
"A place," she said, with a tilt of her head. "That you find especially peaceful or relaxing on the island. I'd like to be shown it, some point this week."
She knew most of the island already, truly, and would have been a very poor Turk had she not. But Rosalind thought that was on par with school notes.
"... If that's alright?"
Maybe it wasn't a good match up? Rosalind knew she was bad at... playing it safe.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
"There are places on the island where I go to meditate," she said, nodding. "I would be happy to show you one of them. When would be a convenient time for you? I will be busy much of the day tomorrow" -- assuming she made herself go to class and the Reserve meeting -- "but much of my time is open for the rest of the week. Except perhaps Sunday."
Though they might actually run into each other in passing there, if she was at the library to visit with Jono.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
... Really, it was amazing they hadn't run into each other on Sundays before with all the Jono-visiting that happened between them.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
Peace and relaxation often came at the cost of being cold outside.
Re: Partner Up//Grant a Wish
"I'll keep that in mind," she said lightly. Rosalind would... wear her suit. It was a Turk thing. "My class is fourth period, if that's not a problem?"
