Kappa Kappa Gremlin Meeting, After Classes, Monday [ 01/31 ].

It was no big surprise that Alexander spent a lot of time searching through the library, and, while he had still failed to find exactly what he was looking for, he did, on occasion, come up with a few unexpected gems. And one of those gems was something he definitely had to bring into the fraternity weekend that week.

It was the calendar from the fraternity almost two years ago, and it was certainly a relic of....well, something. Alexander wasn’t quite sure yet.

“We...don’t have enough people for every month like in 2008,” Alexander noted, because they had so many people they could even spare two for October!

“Well, no,” Zack mused, leaning over it and pursing his lips thoughtfully, “but we’re not all that bad to look at, right? We could have some group shots, or some of us doubling up, maybe?”

“I guess,” Alexander said, “that’s where everyone in the group comes in today.” He looked at the rest of the fraternity with a crooked smile. “Do you guys have any thoughts on trying to recreate something like this, to tie us to the tradition of KKG groups of the past? Or do you feel more like, in cases like this, the past should stay....in the past?”

“I totally have dibs on September,” Zack chimed in, because this calendar thing was awesome, okay, and he was now hell-bent on it. “September is a good month to model a swimsuit, right?”

This was going to be an interesting project, right here. Alexander was facepalming just about there, using it to rub his forehead for a second and think about claiming January for himself, so he could hopefully avoid shirtlessness himself. He shook his head. “So, yes, let us discuss, shall we? Over the usual pizza and soda, of course.”

There is pizza! And pop! And people! To be completely alliterative about it.

So, Jeremy... hadn't exactly made it to the first meeting last week, having gotten distracted by some shiny video games ~~and his mun having had a horrible case of the Monday brain~~.

Didn't matter, he was here now, eager to socialize and even more eager to partake of the pizza. It seemed deserved after having spent a good chunk of the day on the phone to his big sister and some of her contacts, even if all that had been for a good reason.

Peter arrived and was quite happy to see free pizza.

Free pizza was 60% of why he showed up each week, truly.

Hank was more than happy to be around all three! Pizza! Pop! People!

Goose was there and helping himself to some pizza.

Pizza!

Chuck was another one who failed on last week... Lets say he got involved in a bit of a Call of Duty marathon ~~and it wasn't at all because his mun forgot~~.

But he was here now, and enjoying the pizza and pop, and thinking perhaps he should've put the effort to break away from the Xbox last week.

Anduin was developing quite an appreciation for pizza thanks to being in Fandom, and was trying to sneak two pieces onto his plate without looking like a total glutton.

"I want to be Mister December," Peter joked. "Me, strategically placed mistletoe, that's what we want, right?"

"Just mistletoe?"

Zack, don't squeak like that. It wasn't very SOLDIER-y.

"I'm joking," Peter made very clear. "But usually when I think of charity calendar, it's solidly in the cheese or beefcake category, depending on the target audience."

"Well, this one doesn't have to be," Zack decided. Even if, well, the vast majority of the population of the island seemed to place squarely in one category or the other by default anyhow. "People can pose however they're comfortable, and doing whatever. Because this is a school club, we're going to want to keep it clean, at least."

Mostly clean. Passably clean, for Fandom?

Not too dirty.

"Yeah, and what, how many other members are actually of the age of consent?" Peter asked. "Not many. Though I'm sure if we all posed shirtless we might get better sales."

Give Zack just a moment, here. He'd been enrolled in his world's military since he was twelve.

"Age of consent?"

Gaia and Earth were two very different creatures.

Peter snapped his fingers. "Age of majority, sorry, mixing up my terms. The age in which the government acknowledges you are an adult as opposed to a minor."

Zack totally didn't look any more enlightened, here.

"Minor?"

That was the flat, kind of baffled tone of a puppy who was realizing that Earth was still weird.

"Wow," Peter said. "In the United States, specifically, if you're under the age of eighteen you're considered a minor. You can't buy cigarettes, you're not allowed to vote, you're treated like a child in a lot of ways. Hell, you don't even get full rights until you're twenty-one for a lot of things."

Wow, indeed.

"Eighteen? What makes that the magic number? I'm seventeen, and I don't think I'm some kind of... little kid."

So help him, Zack was actually kind of insulted.

"That's just it," Peter said. "It's a magic number. Most things in the United Kingdom, seventeen is adult enough. Here, it's eighteen. Because old people like controlling young ones."

Zack was still frowning as he gave his head a shake.

"I'm okay with being controlled," he said. "I'm in the military. Being told what to do is what I am. But I've never been treated like I was any less than my superior officers just because I was younger than them. I joined SOLDIER five years ago, and any time I was treated like a rookie, it was because I was acting like one."

... Because he was twelve. Come on, Zack.

"You... okay, did you join the military, or were you drafted?" Peter asked, suddenly really worried about Zack's world.

"I joined," Zack replied, shrugging lightly, as if it was seriously the most natural thing in the world.

... Granted, there were drafts into SOLDIER. And a lot of candidates didn't even survive the treatments that made them into SOLDIER instead of just normal infantry. But Zack? So not one of those guys, so yay?

Peter just opened his mouth and then closed it. Then opened it again and then closed it.

"When I was twelve, I'm pretty sure all I wanted to be was a brontosaurus," Peter said.

He wasn't going to get into an ideological argument about the cognitive capacity for pre-teens to make well thought-out decisions. That would get messy.

Zack quirked a sideways little smile, at that.

"If we had brontosauruses on Gaia, that might have been my second choice," he offered.

He seriously wasn't seeing the issue, here. He probably wasn't going to start, any time soon.

And that was precisely why Peter wasn't bringing it up.

"Okay, I think I was more like nine at the time," he admitted. "So, yeah. That's the law of majority for you. Fun times."

Zack contemplated that for a few moments more, and then shrugged and made a reach for a slice of pizza.

"Weird," he settled on, "but I guess if those are the rules, we've got to follow them."

He wasn't all that heartbroken. He hadn't really planned on making a dirty calendar, anyhow.

"You know, I'm sure the calendar is nice and all the way it is, but if it's for us... shouldn't there be girls on it?"

"Uh..." Zack blinked, kind of baffled by this suggestion. "Well, I think we were going to actually sell it. As a... fundraiser?"

Note how he wasn't entirely certain, here? Zack didn't know!

"I don't know if most of the guys in the frat really want to see me in a swimsuit for all of September, you know?"

Maybe they did! Zack wasn't going to judge!

Hank thought about that. And thought about it. Slowly, the point of the whole thing dawned on him.

"But the girls will want to see us!!!"

Well, not you, Hank. But Zack, for sure.

"It's like advertising for dates! That's AWESOME!!! We should totally put our phone numbers on it!!!"

... Huh. Hank caught on well, when he caught on quick, Zack totally had to grant him that.

"Well, maybe the phone numbers of the guys who are looking," Zack mused. "I have a girlfriend. And my phone isn't supposed to really be for casual calls, anyhow."

Which didn't stop him from handing out the number to his PHS to siblings, classmates, and cute flower girls who lived in the slums, really.

"Not even if the calendar nets you a hot little filly on the side?" Hank asked slyly. "You are so totally whupped!"

"Uh..." Zack's baffled-face, Hank. Can you see it? "I guess if not cheating on my girlfriend means I'm whipped, I totally am, and I'm proud of it," Zack decided. "But I don't think I'd need a calendar anyhow, if I wanted to pick up girls. I've got a uniform."

Chicks liked a uniform!

"Yeah, I've got a uniform, too, but it's just a stupid dorktacular jumpsuit. It's, like, chick repellant."

Aww, poor Hank!

"Man, it's all in how you wear it," Zack replied, grinning a little. "Are you confident, too?"

... Or maybe it was the neckerchief. But Zack was way too nice to point that out.

"SHUCKS yeah!" Hank answered. "I've got confidence coming out my ear holes!!! I'm Mister Confident!"

Hey, the kerchief was stylin'.

"That actually was one of the things I was considering seeing if the sorority might want to join forces for," Alexander offered, now feeling that his idea was a bit better. "It could definitely supplant some of the missing months, and, besides, it makes it more appealing to a wider range of people..."

That, and maybe then Maladicta could get through the whole thing without laughing the entire time...

"Plus, it'd be HOT!!!"

Way to focus on the important things, Hank.

"Blast, I was young," Ben said, flipping through the calendar. "And John Sheppard has gotten old."

Nice, Ben.

He should probably remember the calendar from all those years ago, if he hadn't blocked it out of memory completely.

Fraser hadn't blocked it from memory. He did, for a minute, feel old that he'd been there for that but only for a minute. After that, he was pleased to see the idea resurrected.

One of whom is clearly a bit more into the idea than the other....

...but he'll warm up eventually! It's not just the content that confuses him, either. Just give him a bloody sundial, here...

Calendar! Posing for awesome pictures and action shots and stuff and every girl in the school was going to want one of these, right?

Right?

Zack was bouncing and grinning as he mowed down on a slice of vegetarian pizza. The Mountain Dew that he was washing it down with probably had something to do with that.

Holy crap, nostalgia. I can't believe that was in 2008, has it really been that long?

And please forgive my inability to ever spell 'calendar' correctly.

Oh man, Fraser was there for that one too. HE IS SO OLD AND CREAKY NOW. SO OLD.

I got such a kick at noticing that he was the adviser even then. BENTON YOU OLD FOSSIL YOU.
