Today's class again met in the Danger Shop, and again Hook had programmed a three masted vessel for the activity of the day.

"There we are, there we are. Everyone here and ready?" Hook said, after the class had gathered. "Jolly good job with the rope work last week. Jolly good. You all got up and went straight into things, and for that I applaud you, at least figuratively."

He paced back and forth on the deck a bit, as he spoke.

"As for today, the activity on the syllabus is an exercise in following orders. Which is simple. On the sea, there are instances where you'll have to put your own mind aside and follow orders so that you and the rest of the crew survive. Originally I had something rather harsh planned for today, but given recent events I've decided that would be bad form. Instead, I'm going to test your limits."

He opened a large chest on the deck of the ship, which contained several frilly pink dresses (including one frog-sized). He also gestured to a barrel which was full of dead, whole fish (and one sardine).

"Everyone is to pull on a dress, grab a fish, and slap another student across the face with it. Not hard, mind you, I don't want any permanent damage. A slap, not a wallop. If you find that too difficult, I can provide other orders, if you really feel you can't follow them."

He snapped his fingers. "Chop chop, get to it. This is an object lesson. Don't object to it unless you're ready to present a very good case for why you should mutiny."

And perhaps that was part of the object lesson as well.

When the captain said jump, you asked how high.

Nico put on a frilly dress, thought he looked okay for a dude, and grabbed a fish. Someone was getting slapped.

Luke whistled at Nico when he saw him in the dress. "Niiiiice choice. The color goes well with your eyes."

He hadn't put on a dress because, well, he just didn't want to. He was pretty good at following orders until it came to clothes. He liked being comfortable, dammit.

Nico glanced down at the pink dress, only a little embarrassed by the whistling. "Think I should drop the whole black thing and go for pink? Might be a little hard to hide in the shadows, but I'm getting better at solidifying them around me."

"I think pink is definitely your color," Luke decided. He didn't have a fish in his hand because he could just snap one into existence the second he felt like hitting somebody with one. Which had never occurred to him to do until today.

"You've been practicing with your powers?" Luke asked. "The fact that you can use them after training means I should work you harder."

Not dirty.

"Hey, I've gotta keep practicing or I'll pass out the next time I try to raise anything to fight on my behalf," Nico explained. "But trust I'm not practicing for hours after our training."

After their training he usually wanted to sleep in the shower.

"That's sort of a relief. I don't want to push you harder; I feel like passing out after we're done as it is." Though he rarely actually slept after that and they both knew it.

And wasn't that just an awkward pause where Nico debated calling Luke on never actually sleeping.

They'd proven in the past that class was not the place for these talks, so Nico let it slide in favor of tugging at the bushy skirt of his dress and raising his fish. "Considering how much time I spend trying to hit you with a sword, this whole fish thing seems a little stupid."

"Oh man you're not really gonna hit me with that, are you?" Luke asked, making a face.

"Nah, that would mean continuing to hold it!" Nico replied, chucking the fish at Luke's waist to at least kind of meet the class requirements and divest himself of the nasty dead fish.

Luke made another grossed out face as the fish hit him and flopped to the floor. "Siiiiick!"

Now he was gonna have to do laundry. Maybe he should have put on the dress.

He didn't actually want to touch a dead fish because that was just friggen gross, so he used that nifty telekinesis (there were no rules against that, he was sure of it) to lift it back off the ground and then lightly tossed it in the direction of Nico's head. Which wasn't very nice, sure, but he wasn't very nice, despite what Percy said.

"Hey, no powers!" Nico complained, batting at the fish just too late to keep it from getting in his hair. "Ass!"

"Was that a rule? I don't believe that was a rule," Luke said, laughing a little. "You're the one that hit me first."
